Speaker 1
In his book Vision Hearing Your Guide to Discovering and Maintaining Personal Vision, Andy Stanley defines vision hearing as the course one follows to make dreams a reality. It is the process whereby ideas and convictions take on substance

00;00;18;00 - 00;00;31;09
Speaker 1
and vision. Hearing is also the second waypoint in the discovering your Calling process. And our topic for today's episode. So let's get started inside this podcast.

00;02;18;27 - 00;02;42;14
Speaker 1
Welcome back friends. This is your host, Sherry Miter, and I am excited to continue our eight week challenge. You know, last week I shared how knowing your natural talent is a vital piece of the Colleen puzzle, as I like to say it, and it's why I'm passionate. And I also shared why I'm passionate about Cliftonstrengths,

00;02;42;14 - 00;02;52;01
Speaker 1
and I hope that it might have inspired you to either pull back out your cliftonstrengths report that maybe you took years ago

00;02;52;01 - 00;02;54;13
Speaker 1
and and just take a fresh look at it.

00;02;54;13 - 00;03;07;22
Speaker 1
Or maybe it inspired you to go ahead and take the assessment. And if you've never done that and if you missed the episode, make sure you go back and listen to that one. Because as I shared,

00;03;07;22 - 00;03;17;00
Speaker 1
a couple weeks ago when we kicked off the eight week challenge that each of these waypoints or phases build upon each other.

00;03;17;02 - 00;03;20;00
Speaker 1
So go back and listen to that one.

00;03;20;00 - 00;03;23;23
Speaker 1
After you listen to this one, it's okay if you do visionary before strengths, but,

00;03;23;26 - 00;03;27;00
Speaker 1
it'll get very confusing if you don't do the strengths. One.

00;03;27;00 - 00;03;38;17
Speaker 1
As you venture into this journey. So anyway, hope that makes sense. So today is waypoint number two of the eight waypoints in the Discovering Your Calling Academy.

00;03;38;17 - 00;04;00;11
Speaker 1
And as I shared in the teaser opening, it's the vision hearing. And you know, I share what Andy Stanley said about vision hearing that it is the course one follows to make dreams a reality. It is the process whereby ideas and convictions take on substance. And it was through Andy Stanley's book that I first learned about vision hearing.

00;04;00;13 - 00;04;17;13
Speaker 1
Now I've done vision boards. I've done dream boards. I have a visionary diary. It all ties into this. So vision hearing for me is just a simple process of how to really kickstart this whole vision. Hearing and and creating the dream life you want.

00;04;17;13 - 00;04;24;05
Speaker 1
And basically, when we are talking about it from a point of view of the Discovering Your Calling Academy,

00;04;24;05 - 00;04;31;27
Speaker 1
it's really about knowing the general direction you want to head for your ideal career and dream life.

00;04;31;29 - 00;04;36;10
Speaker 1
And you know, in the book I give the analogy of taking a road trip,

00;04;36;10 - 00;04;45;08
Speaker 1
and I share in there how, you know, if you've ever taken a road trip someplace, you know, besides packing good road trip snacks, a necessity

00;04;45;08 - 00;04;46;04
Speaker 1
in my mind,

00;04;46;04 - 00;04;50;28
Speaker 1
the most important step is to make sure you know where the heck you're going.

00;04;50;28 - 00;05;10;28
Speaker 1
And I remember the the olden days. Some of you might remember this, that we used to go to triple A and ask for a triptych if we were going on a big vacation, a big trip across the country. And I love the trip tags, because not only did they tell you how to get where you were going,

00;05;10;28 - 00;05;15;02
Speaker 1
but they gave you some sightseeing places to stop along the way.

00;05;15;03 - 00;05;17;02
Speaker 1
They gave hotel recommendations,

00;05;17;02 - 00;05;33;10
Speaker 1
rest areas, gas stations, all of those things. Now, today, we just simply plug the address into our GPS, right? And boom, we're all set. And depending on how savvy your GPS is, it might give you that same information.

00;05;33;10 - 00;05;38;27
Speaker 1
It'll definitely tell you about how long the trip should take and give you the best,

00;05;38;27 - 00;05;40;12
Speaker 1
options for getting there.

00;05;40;14 - 00;05;44;14
Speaker 1
But here's the thing that the trip tech wasn't prepared

00;05;44;14 - 00;05;55;13
Speaker 1
for. Neither is the GPS. Most of the times, it's they don't tell you ahead of time the obstacles or detours that there will be along the way.

00;05;55;13 - 00;06;03;28
Speaker 1
Now, obviously, the GPS will notify you as they approach, but we don't know those as we step out into this journey.

00;06;03;28 - 00;06;09;16
Speaker 1
And you know, the same is true for this calling journey that we're on.

00;06;09;16 - 00;06;10;08
Speaker 1
And,

00;06;10;08 - 00;06;12;25
Speaker 1
you know, you you need to have an idea

00;06;12;25 - 00;06;16;06
Speaker 1
where you want to go on this career and life journey.

00;06;16;06 - 00;06;27;08
Speaker 1
But we definitely have no idea what detours might be ahead or even what side trips we might want to face or, you know, want to go to as we go on this journey.

00;06;27;10 - 00;06;27;23
Speaker 1
And

00;06;27;23 - 00;06;45;29
Speaker 1
we are going to talk a little bit about some of these detours. I call them things that could stop you later on in the bonus episode that we're going to do on week nine of this challenge. And I am going to talk a little bit about some of the detours or danger zones we might find on our journey today,

00;06;45;29 - 00;06;48;15
Speaker 1
but we just need to know that they're going to be there.

00;06;48;16 - 00;06;48;29
Speaker 1
Like,

00;06;48;29 - 00;06;52;28
Speaker 1
what we envision may not look at all

00;06;52;28 - 00;06;54;22
Speaker 1
what we really end up with,

00;06;54;22 - 00;06;56;12
Speaker 1
but we need to know

00;06;56;12 - 00;06;57;14
Speaker 1
a general.

00;06;57;14 - 00;07;04;28
Speaker 1
We need to know some things. We need to know the general idea of where we want to end in this process. And

00;07;04;28 - 00;07;09;02
Speaker 1
this is going to make way more sense as we go through the question. So hey.

00;07;09;08 - 00;07;11;19
Speaker 1
I feel like I am not explaining this well.

00;07;11;19 - 00;07;14;01
Speaker 1
I think my brain is fried from writing the book.

00;07;14;01 - 00;07;15;22
Speaker 1
But anyway,

00;07;15;22 - 00;07;21;03
Speaker 1
you know, so you may not know the exact coordinates of your destination

00;07;21;03 - 00;07;27;24
Speaker 1
and that will become clear as you go through these eight steps. I promise you that.

00;07;27;24 - 00;07;35;08
Speaker 1
But we need to know now before we set off and that what is that general direction to start heading in?

00;07;35;10 - 00;07;38;24
Speaker 1
Because we need to know if we want to go to the Florida Keys.

00;07;38;24 - 00;07;41;15
Speaker 1
We don't want to end up in New York City.

00;07;41;15 - 00;07;53;18
Speaker 1
So we have to have a general idea. Now, again, we don't know what detours there might be along the way. We don't know what side trips we might choose to take, but we need to know that general idea.

00;07;53;21 - 00;07;57;06
Speaker 1
So, for instance, why is this important? So for me,

00;07;57;06 - 00;07;58;12
Speaker 1
I knew

00;07;58;12 - 00;08;15;29
Speaker 1
and actually it was one of the reasons why I was ready to make that career change is I knew that the way I was running my business when I was a leader in direct sales wasn't really going to work for me, for the lifestyle I knew we were setting up to have my husband.

00;08;15;29 - 00;08;36;18
Speaker 1
I knew he was going to be retired in the next few years, and I knew that once he retired, we really wanted the freedom and flexibility to travel. And part of that would be traveling on a sailboat. So I knew I needed flexibility and I knew I needed to create a laptop lifestyle business.

00;08;36;18 - 00;08;37;03
Speaker 1
So

00;08;37;03 - 00;08;39;14
Speaker 1
those things were really important to me.

00;08;39;16 - 00;08;51;12
Speaker 1
So as I designed what I wanted to do, I had to make sure that it had all those, that it had the flexibility that I could work from my laptop anywhere in the world, really.

00;08;51;12 - 00;08;58;23
Speaker 1
And you know what? Personally, I just don't even like a lot of structure or consistency. I like to be able to do different things at different times.

00;08;58;23 - 00;08;59;09
Speaker 1
Now,

00;08;59;09 - 00;09;06;05
Speaker 1
I've had some of my clients that came into the Discovering Your Calling academy. Some of the students.

00;09;06;05 - 00;09;12;14
Speaker 1
One in particular. I remember she's very invested in her community. She loves her home.

00;09;12;14 - 00;09;18;23
Speaker 1
And honestly, besides taking normal vacations, she plans on staying in that area for a long time.

00;09;18;23 - 00;09;21;26
Speaker 1
She loves consistency. In fact, she thrives on

00;09;21;26 - 00;09;23;16
Speaker 1
SOPs and consistency.

00;09;23;18 - 00;09;36;28
Speaker 1
So she doesn't need to build a flexible work schedule. Actually, she doesn't want that she could actually build a brick and mortar type business, or she could get a career that,

00;09;36;28 - 00;09;41;13
Speaker 1
was location dependent as long as it was in the area she currently lived in.

00;09;41;13 - 00;09;52;17
Speaker 1
So do you see how it matters? What we want in our lives is going to determine what new career we go after, or what new business we might want to create for ourselves.

00;09;52;17 - 00;10;03;17
Speaker 1
So vision hearing is your opportunity to design not just your next career job, but it's to design your entire life

00;10;03;17 - 00;10;04;28
Speaker 1
because you know

00;10;04;28 - 00;10;12;02
Speaker 1
how society works. And probably this has been your life for the last ten, 20, 30 years is

00;10;12;02 - 00;10;18;05
Speaker 1
you've had to learn how to design your life around your career.

00;10;18;05 - 00;10;23;22
Speaker 1
So you work your 40, 50 hours a week and then you're you're expected to put in your life

00;10;23;22 - 00;10;25;25
Speaker 1
in the little pieces left over.

00;10;25;27 - 00;10;31;00
Speaker 1
You know, it's yeah, it's Friday, you have the weekend or oh, you got your two week vacation.

00;10;31;00 - 00;10;36;15
Speaker 1
But this is your opportunity and this discovering your calling process

00;10;36;15 - 00;10;49;27
Speaker 1
to again flip that script and design for your dream life. And then let's see how we can create a career that will sit around that.

00;10;49;27 - 00;10;52;14
Speaker 1
And yes, that is possible.

00;10;52;14 - 00;10;55;25
Speaker 1
And this step is often overlooked,

00;10;55;25 - 00;11;01;12
Speaker 1
but it's just another one that if you don't spend time really, really thinking about it,

00;11;01;12 - 00;11;06;03
Speaker 1
your what's next career may not allow you to create your ideal life.

00;11;06;04 - 00;11;15;29
Speaker 1
You may end up feeling trapped and whatever you've created or trapped in the new title that you took on or trapped in the new company that you're working for.

00;11;15;29 - 00;11;28;18
Speaker 1
So that's why it's vital that we take the time to think about these questions. And that's also why I put this vision nearing stage as this visionary phase towards the beginning of this journey.

00;11;28;18 - 00;11;38;10
Speaker 1
So this is where, again, that you could really dream and create something bigger and better than you've ever imagined in your life.

00;11;38;10 - 00;11;39;00
Speaker 1
And,

00;11;39;00 - 00;11;42;10
Speaker 1
you know, create this thing that you really, really want.

00;11;42;10 - 00;11;42;25
Speaker 1
Now,

00;11;42;25 - 00;11;44;08
Speaker 1
before we jump in,

00;11;44;08 - 00;11;47;28
Speaker 1
I want to say this because this actually kind of surprised me when I,

00;11;47;28 - 00;11;52;28
Speaker 1
experienced this at one of our Discovering Your Calling Academy cohort, is that

00;11;52;28 - 00;11;56;24
Speaker 1
dreaming and visionary can be really hard for some people.

00;11;56;24 - 00;12;17;16
Speaker 1
Now, personally, I love it because I'm high futuristic, so I live in the future. It's just where I naturally tend to think about is where? Where are we going five years down the road? Three years down the road? I'm actually the opposite. Sometimes I have a hard time living in the now. So for me, this comes very naturally, very easy

00;12;17;16 - 00;12;20;00
Speaker 1
or very natural, I should say very easy.

00;12;20;02 - 00;12;21;08
Speaker 1
But for some

00;12;21;08 - 00;12;22;26
Speaker 1
of the students I've had,

00;12;22;26 - 00;12;25;27
Speaker 1
they find this really, really challenging.

00;12;25;27 - 00;12;31;00
Speaker 1
And I also think that if we've never been in an arena in a life,

00;12;31;00 - 00;12;40;24
Speaker 1
maybe our parents didn't raise us this way. You know, maybe you heard as a child, quit dreaming or you're always dreaming about these things. That's never going to happen.

00;12;40;24 - 00;12;42;24
Speaker 1
So we stop dreaming.

00;12;42;26 - 00;12;44;11
Speaker 1
And the older we get,

00;12;44;11 - 00;12;46;04
Speaker 1
and the more life throws at us.

00;12;46;04 - 00;12;50;25
Speaker 1
That wasn't our original plans. The harder it is to let ourselves dream.

00;12;50;25 - 00;12;52;27
Speaker 1
Maybe you've been crushed

00;12;52;27 - 00;12;58;15
Speaker 1
and you know by dreams that you once had that didn't come, you know, come true.

00;12;58;15 - 00;13;01;12
Speaker 1
And so you just don't let yourself go there anymore.

00;13;01;12 - 00;13;05;21
Speaker 1
And I promise that today I'm going to guide you through the process.

00;13;05;21 - 00;13;25;13
Speaker 1
So it will become easier for you to start thinking of possibilities and just kind of allowing yourself, again, that freedom to just open up your mind and to dream a little bit, to visualize vision near what you really want to happen. And just imagine what if, what if it could happen.

00;13;25;13 - 00;13;26;02
Speaker 1
And

00;13;26;02 - 00;13;29;11
Speaker 1
if you find this challenging. All I ask is that you.

00;13;29;14 - 00;13;31;21
Speaker 1
You just step into the possibilities

00;13;31;21 - 00;13;35;14
Speaker 1
that there possibly could be this waiting for you.

00;13;35;14 - 00;13;37;12
Speaker 1
And what would that look like?

00;13;37;12 - 00;13;47;18
Speaker 1
So, you know, as we do take this journey, I promise it will also become easier to really believe that your dream life can become a reality.

00;13;47;18 - 00;13;49;16
Speaker 1
Now, this is also why,

00;13;49;16 - 00;14;05;23
Speaker 1
I do encourage you, if you haven't yet, join me in the Discovering a Calling Facebook community, because the more you're surrounded by like minded women and men and who are on the same journey, we can encourage you.

00;14;05;24 - 00;14;13;08
Speaker 1
We can really infuse you with this possibility thinking and give you back that ability to dream about your future.

00;14;13;08 - 00;14;13;26
Speaker 1
Okay,

00;14;13;26 - 00;14;14;12
Speaker 1
so

00;14;14;12 - 00;14;16;23
Speaker 1
the other thing I need to say before we jump into,

00;14;16;23 - 00;14;20;07
Speaker 1
so questions I have for you today is that this waypoint

00;14;20;07 - 00;14;35;13
Speaker 1
or phase requires you to do a lot of work. So in last week's episode about strengths and working in your talents, I did most of the talking and you just got to sit and listen and take in the information.

00;14;35;15 - 00;14;39;05
Speaker 1
There really wasn't a lot you had to do, but just listen and take it in.

00;14;39;05 - 00;14;58;27
Speaker 1
Not today. Today is about dreaming, as I've been sharing and it's about journaling. And again, it's just about allowing yourself to step into this possibility thinking. Now I'm going to guide you through eight questions today to get you in this dreamy frame of mind.

00;14;58;29 - 00;15;11;19
Speaker 1
And here's the thing. This podcast is going to be a little different. So you can choose to listen to each of the eight questions. And after each question, while it's fresh, just hit pause, answer it, and then come back.

00;15;11;19 - 00;15;18;11
Speaker 1
Or you might want to listen to them all now and then come back when you have more time to really reflect on each question,

00;15;18;11 - 00;15;21;11
Speaker 1
or if you have downloaded the workbook.

00;15;21;13 - 00;15;31;24
Speaker 1
Most of these questions are already in there, so you can just listen to this and then grab your workbook and go sit in quiet spot and and really take time to reflect on the questions.

00;15;31;24 - 00;15;37;02
Speaker 1
But before we jump into these eight questions

00;15;37;02 - 00;15;38;29
Speaker 1
that I have for you today, today

00;15;38;29 - 00;15;44;05
Speaker 1
I want to introduce you to a ready to go Ruth and fearful Fred.

00;15;44;05 - 00;15;48;24
Speaker 1
So ready to go, Ruth. Is this the first voice

00;15;48;24 - 00;15;53;11
Speaker 1
that you might hear in your head? Because there are two voices in our head,

00;15;53;11 - 00;16;07;04
Speaker 1
especially when we are stepping into a new journey that might be out of our comfort zone or starting anything new. We can hear these voices, whether it's a new career, maybe a,

00;16;07;04 - 00;16;09;17
Speaker 1
do you already have a new job?

00;16;09;19 - 00;16;13;22
Speaker 1
Maybe it's buying a house. Maybe it's planning to have a family.

00;16;13;22 - 00;16;20;15
Speaker 1
Maybe you're moving in anytime something different is changing in your life, you're probably going to hear these two voices.

00;16;20;15 - 00;16;34;02
Speaker 1
So again, this first voice is ready to go, Ruth. And she is that positive voice that's going to be like, oh my gosh, this is amazing. Or I would love to do that, or this is going to be so much fun.

00;16;34;04 - 00;16;42;15
Speaker 1
And she's the voice that is your biggest cheerleader, the one who believes in you and want you to stay in possibility thinking.

00;16;42;15 - 00;16;51;00
Speaker 1
Ruth is a voice of courage and loyalty and faith, and she will encourage you just to get out there and try something new.

00;16;51;00 - 00;16;51;14
Speaker 1
Now

00;16;51;14 - 00;16;55;26
Speaker 1
we love ready to go, Ruth. Right? But the other voice is fearful.

00;16;55;26 - 00;16;56;14
Speaker 1
Fred,

00;16;56;14 - 00;17;05;05
Speaker 1
and he's the negative voice in our head. He's usually the second voice we hear, and he wants to keep us stuck and status quo.

00;17;05;05 - 00;17;14;07
Speaker 1
Fred usually says things like, are you crazy? What are you thinking about? That would never work? Or somebody else could do it, but not you.

00;17;14;07 - 00;17;17;27
Speaker 1
Or maybe he even says things like, who do you think you are?

00;17;17;28 - 00;17;20;03
Speaker 1
You aren't qualified to do that.

00;17;20;03 - 00;17;21;07
Speaker 1
You see, Fred

00;17;21;07 - 00;17;26;18
Speaker 1
is fearful and wants to keep you safely inside of your comfort zone,

00;17;26;18 - 00;17;28;17
Speaker 1
hence fearful. Fred.

00;17;28;20 - 00;17;33;13
Speaker 1
Now they are your travel companions on this journey of discovering your calling.

00;17;33;13 - 00;17;43;04
Speaker 1
And honestly, anytime you're stepping out and if your comfort zone or trying something new again, you are probably going to hear from Ready to Go Ruth and Fear fearful Fred.

00;17;43;06 - 00;17;49;19
Speaker 1
And definitely as your vision nearing your ideal life, be ready for them to speak up,

00;17;49;19 - 00;18;00;17
Speaker 1
ready to go. Ruth is going to be cheering you on with thoughts like, you'd be so good at that. Imagine how much fun that would be. I bet you could build a great business doing that

00;18;00;17 - 00;18;05;07
Speaker 1
and fearful Fred's going to be there. Join in the conversation with us.

00;18;05;07 - 00;18;13;08
Speaker 1
Like, what are you thinking? You're not qualified to do that. Why would you give up on a secure job to start over again?

00;18;13;08 - 00;18;18;05
Speaker 1
Now we cannot get rid of them. We can't just drop them off on the side of the road.

00;18;18;05 - 00;18;22;22
Speaker 1
But we can be aware that they're there and we can be ready for them.

00;18;22;22 - 00;18;28;25
Speaker 1
And I'll have some key points at the end of this episode to share with you and how to silence them.

00;18;28;25 - 00;18;43;15
Speaker 1
But for now, we can let Ruth ride shotgun. But let's put fearful Fred in the backseat. Maybe even one of those. Remember the way back in the 1970s era station wagons, when you face looking backwards, let's put fearful Fred back there.

00;18;43;15 - 00;18;49;27
Speaker 1
Okay, so now that we've got that out of the way, we know about these two voices we are going to hear from.

00;18;49;27 - 00;18;56;08
Speaker 1
We know what vision hearing is. Let's jump into the eight questions to help you vision your your future.

00;18;56;08 - 00;19;15;02
Speaker 1
Now these are just going to touch the service to spur your thinking. Feel free to go. Even you know more depth into these questions when you have the time. I highly recommend again that you, you know, go ahead and listen to this podcast or pause it however you want to do that like we talked about.

00;19;15;02 - 00;19;20;24
Speaker 1
But make sure you you take the time to really delve into your answers.

00;19;20;24 - 00;19;23;13
Speaker 1
Don't just go with the surface question

00;19;23;13 - 00;19;26;12
Speaker 1
you know or the surface answer. Dive a little deeper into it.

00;19;26;12 - 00;19;29;14
Speaker 1
Now, some of these I do ask you to just go with your gut answer,

00;19;29;14 - 00;19;32;08
Speaker 1
because sometimes our gut is the right answer.

00;19;32;08 - 00;19;35;00
Speaker 1
But for most of these, it's going to require you.

00;19;35;03 - 00;19;42;10
Speaker 1
What do I really want? Like, they're probably questions no one's ever asked you before. Or maybe you never thought about before.

00;19;42;10 - 00;19;43;27
Speaker 1
So grab a journal,

00;19;43;27 - 00;19;56;14
Speaker 1
grab your favorite pen, maybe fix yourself a nice cup of tea or a nice espresso if you need the boost. Or maybe go take a walk and go sit by, you know, sitting in the park or by your favorite,

00;19;56;14 - 00;19;59;13
Speaker 1
you know, Lake and really delve into these questions,

00;19;59;13 - 00;20;00;00
Speaker 1
okay.

00;20;00;02 - 00;20;02;00
Speaker 1
Number one and there are eight.

00;20;02;00 - 00;20;05;20
Speaker 1
Number one, if you knew you couldn't sail,

00;20;05;20 - 00;20;10;13
Speaker 1
what would you do? So this is the most important question,

00;20;10;13 - 00;20;13;06
Speaker 1
and this is the one that I say to go with your gut.

00;20;13;06 - 00;20;17;18
Speaker 1
So if you knew you couldn't sail, what would you do?

00;20;17;18 - 00;20;23;07
Speaker 1
Now, if that question scares you a little bit. Again, if you're one of those people that has a hard time dreaming or visionary,

00;20;23;07 - 00;20;24;24
Speaker 1
you can change it too.

00;20;24;27 - 00;20;26;19
Speaker 1
If you knew you couldn't fail,

00;20;26;19 - 00;20;29;04
Speaker 1
what would you like to test out or try?

00;20;29;04 - 00;20;32;00
Speaker 1
Or you could change it to if you knew you couldn't fail.

00;20;32;00 - 00;20;35;08
Speaker 1
What would you be curious just to learn more about?

00;20;35;08 - 00;20;36;16
Speaker 1
So what would you do?

00;20;36;16 - 00;20;37;15
Speaker 1
What would you like to test?

00;20;37;15 - 00;20;41;09
Speaker 1
Try. Or you can say, how would you just be a little curious?

00;20;41;09 - 00;20;42;11
Speaker 1
Second question.

00;20;42;11 - 00;20;46;07
Speaker 1
If you could live anywhere, where would it be?

00;20;46;07 - 00;20;51;29
Speaker 1
Would you be like my one client that loves to be in a local, you know, in her local community, surrounded by

00;20;51;29 - 00;20;56;13
Speaker 1
old friends and family you love, where you are and you're never going to leave.

00;20;56;13 - 00;20;59;26
Speaker 1
Would you want to travel abroad for 3 to 6 months?

00;20;59;26 - 00;21;02;04
Speaker 1
One of my good friends is currently doing that.

00;21;02;04 - 00;21;05;21
Speaker 1
They're spending the fall over in Spain, sightseeing around Europe.

00;21;05;21 - 00;21;08;27
Speaker 1
Would it be a boat or an RV?

00;21;08;27 - 00;21;12;13
Speaker 1
Would you want a beach front property or a mountain cabin?

00;21;12;13 - 00;21;13;26
Speaker 1
Would you want it all?

00;21;13;26 - 00;21;20;25
Speaker 1
So if you could live anywhere, where would it be? And again, allow yourself to dream.

00;21;20;27 - 00;21;21;29
Speaker 1
Third question

00;21;21;29 - 00;21;26;26
Speaker 1
what would your ideal day and week look like?

00;21;26;26 - 00;21;29;28
Speaker 1
So think about these things. How many hours

00;21;29;28 - 00;21;38;24
Speaker 1
would you like to really work? Is it a 40 plus workweek? Is it a 20 hour workweek? Would you like to follow Tim Ferriss four hour workweek?

00;21;38;24 - 00;21;48;12
Speaker 1
And then when would you work? If you could choose, if you could choose your preferred preference of when to work, would it be mornings or afternoons or evenings?

00;21;48;14 - 00;22;05;20
Speaker 1
And I usually share with people there is. Think about when do you have the most energy? I know for me I work way better in the morning. I love to get up before my an hour or two before my husband. And come in my office and really get some good solid work done.

00;22;05;20 - 00;22;09;01
Speaker 1
That's when my brain is on fire by the afternoons.

00;22;09;01 - 00;22;26;01
Speaker 1
I'm just ready to take a nap or take a walk. I'm done. Sometimes I can vibe in the evenings if I have my little espresso shot in the afternoon, but otherwise, my best thinking time is in the morning. So when do you have the most energy? That's when you want to work.

00;22;26;01 - 00;22;27;18
Speaker 1
Have your most productive time.

00;22;27;18 - 00;22;31;00
Speaker 1
Would you want time to volunteer or do hobbies?

00;22;31;00 - 00;22;39;01
Speaker 1
So again, what would your ideal day look like? And then what would your ideal week look like? When you think about these questions?

00;22;39;01 - 00;22;39;27
Speaker 1
Number four

00;22;39;27 - 00;22;43;02
Speaker 1
what would your ideal year look like?

00;22;43;02 - 00;22;59;04
Speaker 1
So this is where we get to map out what our ideal, you know, 12 months looks like. You could break it down into quarters into months. But you know, would you love to have a career where you could actually take two full months off to travel and renew?

00;22;59;06 - 00;23;09;29
Speaker 1
I know a lot of fellow coaches who do this. They take the full month of December off, and they take a full month off in the summer to just travel and renew and be with their their family.

00;23;09;29 - 00;23;16;28
Speaker 1
Would you prefer to take many trips each quarter? Maybe you'd like to take four day trips. You know, every quarter.

00;23;16;28 - 00;23;20;14
Speaker 1
Maybe you love to travel, but you just want to do like a weekend getaway.

00;23;20;14 - 00;23;29;24
Speaker 1
Maybe you would love to have working vacations where you're you get to go set up in a new place, but you're actually working because you have that laptop lifestyle.

00;23;29;24 - 00;23;31;17
Speaker 1
Or maybe that

00;23;31;17 - 00;23;41;14
Speaker 1
you're okay with having a just a two week vacation, but you just want that flexibility. Flexibility to put it in wherever you want.

00;23;41;14 - 00;23;45;08
Speaker 1
So what would your ideal year look like?

00;23;45;10 - 00;23;55;21
Speaker 1
Again, we are dreaming about possibilities here, so don't get stuck in. Well that would never happen. Do not let fear through, Fred. Keep you from dreaming right now.

00;23;55;21 - 00;23;56;26
Speaker 1
Okay, number five.

00;23;56;26 - 00;24;01;29
Speaker 1
Do you prefer to work alone or on a team?

00;24;01;29 - 00;24;03;29
Speaker 1
Or maybe for you, it's a combination,

00;24;03;29 - 00;24;09;22
Speaker 1
you know, and in this question to think about, do you want to be the boss or do you prefer to have a boss?

00;24;09;24 - 00;24;13;14
Speaker 1
Do you like to work behind the scenes or front and center?

00;24;13;14 - 00;24;22;22
Speaker 1
You know, if it's working by yourself, is it, you know, on a computer, creating websites, or do you like to work face to face with clients?

00;24;22;22 - 00;24;27;01
Speaker 1
So how do you just prefer to work? Is it alone on a team?

00;24;27;01 - 00;24;31;01
Speaker 1
Combination of that behind the scenes and front and front and center.

00;24;31;01 - 00;24;32;27
Speaker 1
Working face to face with clients

00;24;32;27 - 00;24;39;25
Speaker 1
again. What would that look like for you? If you could design your ideal working scenario

00;24;39;25 - 00;24;42;25
Speaker 1
and then this is kind of a funny one. But for me

00;24;42;25 - 00;24;43;21
Speaker 1
it mattered.

00;24;43;21 - 00;24;48;28
Speaker 1
And that was how would you dress for your perfect day at work?

00;24;48;28 - 00;24;52;25
Speaker 1
So for me, like I said, I know this seems a little corny, but

00;24;52;25 - 00;24;56;05
Speaker 1
in the direct sales business that I was in, the company I was in,

00;24;56;05 - 00;25;00;16
Speaker 1
we were, you know, kind of encouraged and really,

00;25;00;16 - 00;25;01;15
Speaker 1
highly encouraged.

00;25;01;15 - 00;25;10;27
Speaker 1
I should say, to always be dressing the part like I felt like I couldn't leave the door or leave my home to go grocery shopping without putting on, you know,

00;25;10;27 - 00;25;13;12
Speaker 1
at least a really nice pair of jeans or maybe,

00;25;13;12 - 00;25;16;20
Speaker 1
you know, putting my makeup on and always looking looking the part.

00;25;16;20 - 00;25;20;15
Speaker 1
And honestly, I was tired of that. You know, I had to wear dresses or

00;25;20;15 - 00;25;24;11
Speaker 1
skirts to go to work to hold appointments.

00;25;24;14 - 00;25;32;15
Speaker 1
And I don't mind dressing up occasionally, but it was getting really tiresome for me. I love working in my yoga pants,

00;25;32;15 - 00;25;37;02
Speaker 1
and as I said earlier, sometimes I even work at my PJ's and those really early mornings

00;25;37;02 - 00;25;47;02
Speaker 1
and my brain is on fire no matter what I have on. Now, some days I do like to get dressed up if I'm holding an appointment or a workshop.

00;25;47;05 - 00;25;50;23
Speaker 1
I don't mind getting dressed up for that, but I don't want to have to do it every day.

00;25;50;23 - 00;26;01;25
Speaker 1
So what about you? Would you be yoga pants all day club? Or do you feel better and feel more professional when you are dressed in a dress in heels or a suit and tie?

00;26;01;25 - 00;26;03;13
Speaker 1
Or do you want a combo of it?

00;26;03;13 - 00;26;07;15
Speaker 1
So how would you dress for your perfect day at work?

00;26;07;15 - 00;26;08;16
Speaker 1
Number seven

00;26;08;16 - 00;26;12;07
Speaker 1
what type of outfits would you love to have?

00;26;12;07 - 00;26;24;00
Speaker 1
Again, it goes back. You want that freedom of flexibility and just want a laptop lifestyle that your office could be from anywhere. It could be on your boat. It could be in your RV. It could be at the playground watching the kids.

00;26;24;00 - 00;26;25;04
Speaker 1
It could be at the beach.

00;26;25;06 - 00;26;31;27
Speaker 1
Do you love the idea of having a remote but shared office space? I know that it's so popular right now,

00;26;31;27 - 00;26;37;20
Speaker 1
and it's a great experience where you don't have to have an office, but you get to go be around other professionals.

00;26;37;20 - 00;26;41;10
Speaker 1
Do you love the idea of creating a beautiful home office,

00;26;41;10 - 00;26;48;15
Speaker 1
or does the idea of that swanky office, you know, the corner office in a city building light you up?

00;26;48;17 - 00;26;51;02
Speaker 1
What type of office would you love to have?

00;26;51;02 - 00;26;56;05
Speaker 1
And then number eight, this is the final question here for the eight.

00;26;56;05 - 00;26;57;15
Speaker 1
I have one more for you. Flat.

00;26;57;15 - 00;27;02;27
Speaker 1
Number eight, what type of income would you like to make?

00;27;02;27 - 00;27;15;07
Speaker 1
Now, later on in the waypoints, we're going to talk about making an impact over income. But you know, knowing again what type of income already talking about at least get this heading in the right direction.

00;27;15;07 - 00;27;29;23
Speaker 1
So as you think about this question of what type of income would you like to make? You know, are you looking to just make some side hustle money? So maybe you could take those vacations we talked about? Or are you trying to build up

00;27;29;23 - 00;27;37;15
Speaker 1
a savings so that you can step away from your current career, you know, debt free next year with a nice sized safety net?

00;27;37;16 - 00;27;53;05
Speaker 1
So maybe you're going to give yourself a long runway and you have 12 months to really knock off any debt and really build up, you know, a nice cushion of savings. So when you're ready to put in that two weeks notice, you have it there. Like, is that what you want to start something today. So you can build that.

00;27;53;07 - 00;27;58;19
Speaker 1
Or are you looking to replace your current income, say in the next six months or 12 months,

00;27;58;19 - 00;28;02;29
Speaker 1
or maybe you're very comfortable with your current income and you're just looking

00;28;02;29 - 00;28;05;16
Speaker 1
for money that you can give generously

00;28;05;16 - 00;28;07;09
Speaker 1
so that you can give generously.

00;28;07;09 - 00;28;10;02
Speaker 1
So what type of income would you like to make?

00;28;10;02 - 00;28;13;08
Speaker 1
Feel free to put a dollar on that amount.

00;28;13;08 - 00;28;13;25
Speaker 1
So

00;28;13;25 - 00;28;21;25
Speaker 1
those are the eight questions. I'll review them real quick here. So if you knew you couldn't fail what would you do? I like to even say what would you love to do?

00;28;21;25 - 00;28;25;04
Speaker 1
Number two, if you could live anywhere, where would it be?

00;28;25;04 - 00;28;30;19
Speaker 1
Number three, what would your ideal day and or work or week look like? Sorry.

00;28;30;19 - 00;28;34;19
Speaker 1
Number four what would your ideal year look like?

00;28;34;21 - 00;28;38;29
Speaker 1
Number five do you prefer to work alone on a team or in a combination?

00;28;38;29 - 00;28;42;14
Speaker 1
Number six how would you dress for your perfect day at work?

00;28;42;14 - 00;28;45;10
Speaker 1
Number seven what type of office would you have?

00;28;45;10 - 00;28;48;22
Speaker 1
Number eight. What type of income would you like to make?

00;28;48;22 - 00;28;53;04
Speaker 1
Now, this final question isn't one of the eight, but it's a really important one.

00;28;53;04 - 00;28;54;12
Speaker 1
It's what stops you.

00;28;54;12 - 00;28;57;08
Speaker 1
What mindset issues pop up

00;28;57;08 - 00;28;58;18
Speaker 1
at Fearful Fraud?

00;28;58;18 - 00;29;06;03
Speaker 1
So what do you do when those mindset issues do pop up? When fearful Fred gets in your head?

00;29;06;03 - 00;29;13;28
Speaker 1
Oh, I like that fear. Fearful Fred gets in your head. How do we kick him out? How do we show him? How do we make him be quiet?

00;29;13;28 - 00;29;19;01
Speaker 1
The first thing you want to do is just challenge yourself to question these thoughts.

00;29;19;01 - 00;29;20;26
Speaker 1
Ask are they really true?

00;29;20;26 - 00;29;25;13
Speaker 1
And then play out this the what if scenarios okay. What if they are true.

00;29;25;13 - 00;29;27;05
Speaker 1
What's the worst that can happen?

00;29;27;05 - 00;29;35;15
Speaker 1
You know, maybe you're sitting here thinking like, oh, I would love to start my own consulting or coaching business next year

00;29;35;15 - 00;29;40;17
Speaker 1
and ready to go. Ruth, she's excited about this idea and she's there for you.

00;29;40;19 - 00;29;47;24
Speaker 1
But then fearful Fred gets in your head and starts begins to say things like, you weren't certified,

00;29;47;24 - 00;29;49;09
Speaker 1
who were you to do this?

00;29;49;09 - 00;29;51;02
Speaker 1
Who would even hire you?

00;29;51;02 - 00;29;55;13
Speaker 1
And where would you find the time? You already work 40 hours in a week.

00;29;55;13 - 00;30;00;06
Speaker 1
Maybe there's other things that pop in your head when you think about your ideal career in life.

00;30;00;06 - 00;30;05;13
Speaker 1
So question these thoughts again. Are they true? Are they really true?

00;30;05;13 - 00;30;12;11
Speaker 1
And what's the worst case scenario? So let's take for instance let's say fearful. Fred says you aren't certified

00;30;12;11 - 00;30;20;16
Speaker 1
but you have real life experience. Do you need to be certified? You're sharing your story. You're sharing your experiences.

00;30;20;16 - 00;30;23;00
Speaker 1
So you don't even need to be certified right now.

00;30;23;03 - 00;30;25;14
Speaker 1
Maybe down the road you could be, but not right now.

00;30;25;14 - 00;30;28;04
Speaker 1
Fearful, Fred says, who are you to do this?

00;30;28;04 - 00;30;38;16
Speaker 1
You know who you are. You're someone who's passionate and caring and you've lived through something you know, something you can teach what you know.

00;30;38;16 - 00;30;47;02
Speaker 1
And then you know that voice. When fearful, Fred says, who would even hire you? Well, maybe it says, no one's going to pay you to do that.

00;30;47;04 - 00;30;52;17
Speaker 1
You know what? Look for the evidence. Go out there and find other people who are doing something similar.

00;30;52;17 - 00;31;08;17
Speaker 1
And you know what? People are going to hire you because they like you. You have the expertise they're looking for. You have the story they're looking for. You have the strengths that they're looking for. You are uniquely made. If you need to go back and listen to way point number one again, okay.

00;31;08;19 - 00;31;23;04
Speaker 1
And what about that last one of where would you find the time. You already work 40 hours in the week. And I'm sure in this one for a lot of you hits home fearful Fred stays in the conversation a lot around this.

00;31;23;04 - 00;31;27;21
Speaker 1
And you know what. It probably is true that you work a lot of hours in the week already.

00;31;27;21 - 00;31;29;03
Speaker 1
You have a full plate,

00;31;29;03 - 00;31;35;01
Speaker 1
but could you find just two hours a week? Could you find four hours a week

00;31;35;01 - 00;31;37;11
Speaker 1
to devote to this new business venture,

00;31;37;11 - 00;31;42;27
Speaker 1
or better yet, start asking, how can I find the time to do this?

00;31;42;27 - 00;31;51;26
Speaker 1
That's another trick to getting rid of fearful Fred is changing. Flipping the Skype, the question or the statement he makes back to a question

00;31;51;26 - 00;31;54;22
Speaker 1
instead of accepting it, say, well, how can I do this?

00;31;54;22 - 00;31;57;13
Speaker 1
If that's the case, how can I do this?

00;31;57;13 - 00;32;09;21
Speaker 1
So how can you find the 2 to 4 hours a week to devote to this new business venture, or to devote to creating your side hustle, or to devote to searching for the perfect career?

00;32;09;21 - 00;32;13;01
Speaker 1
So those are some ideas. Help you just work through

00;32;13;01 - 00;32;14;25
Speaker 1
when fearful Fred

00;32;14;25 - 00;32;16;05
Speaker 1
gets in your head.

00;32;16;09 - 00;32;26;29
Speaker 1
All right, we're going to close this up my friends. And here's your self work. Just a reminder. Go back through the visionary exercises, the eight questions that I pose. Really spend time on them.

00;32;26;29 - 00;32;35;21
Speaker 1
Number two, if fearful Fred shows up. Go through these steps we just talked about to create a truth statement to overcome his negative thoughts.

00;32;35;21 - 00;32;42;17
Speaker 1
And number three, share anything that popped into your head listening to this today or what comes up.

00;32;42;17 - 00;32;55;09
Speaker 1
Maybe share your vision if you want your highest vision, or maybe share some of the negative thoughts that fearful Fred's saying and you need help overcoming inside of the Facebook community. That's what it's there for.

00;32;55;09 - 00;33;02;02
Speaker 1
It's there that you're going to get more support for me. I can coach you through some of these things. So,

Speaker 1
And next week we're going to be talking about,

00;34;08;16 - 00;34;09;24
Speaker 1
the energy audit.

00;34;09;24 - 00;34;14;24
Speaker 1
And also why the question you are most asked

00;34;14;24 - 00;34;19;27
Speaker 1
when working with a career coach, or maybe even at a job interview or,

00;34;19;27 - 00;34;21;04
Speaker 1
you know, a counselor.

00;34;21;04 - 00;34;24;13
Speaker 1
Why? This is the wrong question.

00;34;24;13 - 00;34;31;12
Speaker 1
So we'll talk about that next week for waypoint number three of the eight week Discovering Your Calling challenge.

00;34;31;15 - 00;34;36;24
Speaker 1
All right my friend, if you have any questions reach out. And I hope to see you inside of the Facebook community.
