Speaker 1
In the Discovering Your Calling book, I share a quote by Elvis Presley that says values are like fingerprints. Nobody's are the same, but you leave them all over. Everything you do.

00;00;11;05 - 00;00;33;04
Speaker 1
Welcome, my friends, to waypoint number four, which is all about uncovering your core values and non-negotiables in your life and identifying your true passions and revisiting your childhood dreams, all of which will help you align what matters most to you with your future work and life.

00;00;33;06 - 00;00;46;29
Speaker 1
So pour yourself a fresh espresso or grab a hot cup of tea. Grab your journal and a favorite pen. Get cozy, my friend, because this episode is going to need your full attention.

00;01;15;12 - 00;01;26;08
Speaker 1
So welcome back my friends to are Discovering Your Calling eight week challenge. We are halfway through. We're on week four and waypoint number four.

00;01;26;10 - 00;01;39;00
Speaker 1
And if you've been committed to listening to each of the episodes and doing the self work, you should start to be feeling like you have a few pieces of your calling puzzle in hand,

00;01;39;00 - 00;01;48;04
Speaker 1
and perhaps you've even started to do the outline of the edges of the puzzle. I mean, doesn't everybody do the frame of the puzzle first before you do the inside pieces?

00;01;48;04 - 00;01;49;22
Speaker 1
I mean, that's how I do a puzzle.

00;01;49;22 - 00;02;02;09
Speaker 1
But anyway, I digress, but you should be creating a framework for, or at least beginning to feel like you have the framework start needed for your calling.

00;02;02;09 - 00;02;26;24
Speaker 1
And you know what? If you don't, don't sweat it. Don't worry. No judgment here. Just keep doing the work. If you need to go back and re listen to the past episodes and spend time really doing the self work, because the more you can pour into this program, the more you're going to get out of it, and eventually things should start to come together.

00;02;26;26 - 00;02;36;14
Speaker 1
And I get it. I know in today's fast paced, AI driven world, it's so easy to expect instant results.

00;02;36;14 - 00;03;00;23
Speaker 1
But true clarity, my friend, doesn't come with the push of a button, and it takes dedication, persistence, willingness to do the work, and being open to what you discover about yourself every step of the way. And I know you know this because you're an achiever and you understand that excellence is about showing up fully,

00;03;00;23 - 00;03;04;27
Speaker 1
even if the path before us isn't crystal clear.

00;03;04;27 - 00;03;10;21
Speaker 1
So keep showing up with your best self and I promise you the clarity will come.

00;03;10;21 - 00;03;14;08
Speaker 1
And this is where the values come in.

00;03;14;08 - 00;03;20;23
Speaker 1
Because your values are about showing up as your best self, or you probably wouldn't be listening to this podcast.

00;03;20;23 - 00;03;27;26
Speaker 1
And it's your values and what I call non-negotiables that are the foundation of everything you do.

00;03;27;26 - 00;03;36;14
Speaker 1
And I kind of like to think of them as maybe those corner pieces of your puzzle that without them, it's going to be really hard to fit the other pieces together.

00;03;36;14 - 00;03;39;15
Speaker 1
It's what matters most to you, and

00;03;39;15 - 00;03;42;16
Speaker 1
that will shape how you live out your calling.

00;03;42;16 - 00;03;48;02
Speaker 1
And in this episode, we're going to get really clear on what those values are.

00;03;48;04 - 00;03;54;28
Speaker 1
So again, this is way point number four. And it's all about uncovering your core values,

00;03;54;28 - 00;03;56;23
Speaker 1
your non-negotiables in life,

00;03;56;23 - 00;04;02;06
Speaker 1
identifying some true passions you have and revisiting your childhood dreams.

00;04;02;06 - 00;04;09;19
Speaker 1
And it will require time for you to sit in quiet reflection, journaling, and if it resonates with you, praying

00;04;09;19 - 00;04;19;08
Speaker 1
and you know whether you find this introspective work invigorating or challenging, it's important to approach it with patience and openness.

00;04;19;08 - 00;04;27;08
Speaker 1
And remember that as you do this work, there are no right or wrong answers. It's only your authentic thoughts and feelings.

00;04;27;08 - 00;04;35;08
Speaker 1
Now, before we move into the steps to connect with what your core values and non-negotiables are,

00;04;35;08 - 00;04;46;07
Speaker 1
I want to share a story about a time in my life when my core values were compromised, and how it made me make a major career decision.

00;04;46;10 - 00;04;57;02
Speaker 1
And as I share my story, I want you to think about is is it a situation that you can relate to? Maybe it's the current situation you're in, or maybe you've felt this way in the past.

00;04;57;02 - 00;05;06;08
Speaker 1
So I want to take you back to February 2020 and know it's not a Covid story. This was happened before. We knew Covid was a thing to be concerned about.

00;05;06;10 - 00;05;09;14
Speaker 1
You know, only a few weeks beforehand, but it was beforehand

00;05;09;14 - 00;05;10;00
Speaker 1
and

00;05;10;00 - 00;05;12;23
Speaker 1
what happened to me then was that I

00;05;12;23 - 00;05;13;29
Speaker 1
heard some news

00;05;13;29 - 00;05;19;27
Speaker 1
from my, corporate from the corporate headquarters of the direct sales company that I was with.

00;05;19;27 - 00;05;29;06
Speaker 1
And this news honestly became the final straw to solidify my decision to leave my career with that company.

00;05;29;06 - 00;05;35;04
Speaker 1
And that decision came despite the fact that I was actually at the height of my career.

00;05;35;06 - 00;05;48;12
Speaker 1
And what had happened is I had just found out that one of our corporate staff members was suddenly let go. I mean, suddenly, like he was supposed to be coming to visit my town to do a workshop in just a few weeks.

00;05;48;12 - 00;05;55;04
Speaker 1
And I had just saw him the month before at a huge leadership conference. I mean, this was a sudden decision.

00;05;55;09 - 00;06;01;15
Speaker 1
Well, maybe it wasn't a sudden decision, but it was a sudden announcement. It felt like a sudden decision.

00;06;01;15 - 00;06;11;07
Speaker 1
And this person wasn't just another staff member, but he was somebody that I had come to lean on and highly respected. And I honestly, I adored him.

00;06;11;07 - 00;06;17;15
Speaker 1
He had been a pivotal part of thousands of women success within our company, including my own.

00;06;17;17 - 00;06;24;09
Speaker 1
And he was the person who taught me all about Cliftonstrengths and how to utilize my talents to become a stronger leader.

00;06;24;09 - 00;06;28;08
Speaker 1
And here's the thing it wasn't just the fact that he was let go

00;06;28;08 - 00;06;37;15
Speaker 1
that really got to me. It was the way it was done. You see, we just received a very terse note from headquarters. I think it was an email,

00;06;37;15 - 00;06;39;29
Speaker 1
as if it was a very small decision

00;06;39;29 - 00;06;42;21
Speaker 1
like, oh, we're not making this product anymore.

00;06;42;21 - 00;06;48;04
Speaker 1
And here's why. It was like, really done. And I thought in a very,

00;06;48;04 - 00;06;49;07
Speaker 1
tasteful way.

00;06;49;07 - 00;06;58;02
Speaker 1
And to me, this entire situation was just incomprehensible. I, I didn't understand why they made the decision. They never

00;06;58;02 - 00;07;00;09
Speaker 1
they never gave us any clarity on that.

00;07;00;09 - 00;07;03;08
Speaker 1
And it was just like, poof, he's gone out of our lives.

00;07;03;08 - 00;07;08;11
Speaker 1
And this became the straw that broke the camel's back for me.

00;07;08;14 - 00;07;19;18
Speaker 1
I had already been in a place of wondering whether or not this was where I wanted to stay for the next ten years, 20 years of my life, even though I'd been there 25 years.

00;07;19;18 - 00;07;32;03
Speaker 1
But but this situation, it it really stirred up something in me because it violated my core values, my core values of integrity, authenticity, and loyalty.

00;07;32;05 - 00;07;37;25
Speaker 1
Those core values had been shattered by the way the company handled the situation.

00;07;37;25 - 00;07;41;26
Speaker 1
And, you know, despite the fact that I had loved what I was doing,

00;07;41;26 - 00;07;48;27
Speaker 1
even though I was ready to kind of make a change, you know, I was very deeply connected to my team and my customers and my friends within the company.

00;07;48;27 - 00;07;55;19
Speaker 1
But this violation of my core values was really the catalyst that made me say,

00;07;55;19 - 00;07;57;19
Speaker 1
I'm done, I'm done.

00;07;57;19 - 00;08;00;07
Speaker 1
I threw up my hands like that. It

00;08;00;07 - 00;08;01;22
Speaker 1
I need to

00;08;01;22 - 00;08;15;08
Speaker 1
find a way, make a way to do something different. Because I knew I never wanted to be in a place again, where I felt like my core values, my non-negotiables, what mattered most to me

00;08;15;08 - 00;08;19;28
Speaker 1
and how I ran my business would never be compromised again.

00;08;19;28 - 00;08;40;03
Speaker 1
And maybe, as I've shared before, shared in the beginning that maybe you've been in a similar spot as this and you can relate to this and you've experienced that place where what you did or where you worked just didn't align with your core values or what I call your non-negotiables as well.

00;08;40;06 - 00;08;42;08
Speaker 1
And you know, when this happens,

00;08;42;08 - 00;08;51;01
Speaker 1
it can eat away at us from the inside out. I mean, that's where anxiety, stress, which is our overall well-being, will suffer.

00;08;51;01 - 00;09;00;10
Speaker 1
And we find ourselves in this place of just a disinterest in what we're doing and a lack of passion for a job that maybe we once enjoyed.

00;09;00;10 - 00;09;02;11
Speaker 1
So how do we change this?

00;09;02;11 - 00;09;05;27
Speaker 1
How do we make sure that where we're going

00;09;05;27 - 00;09;11;25
Speaker 1
doesn't do that for us, that it does align with our core values, that we hold dearly.

00;09;11;25 - 00;09;22;22
Speaker 1
And that's what waypoint number four is all about. We're going to really dive deep to really identify what are your core values.

00;09;22;22 - 00;09;25;04
Speaker 1
What are your non-negotiables?

00;09;25;04 - 00;09;34;24
Speaker 1
What are those passions and dreams you once had in your life, even as a child, that maybe you're not respecting for yourself today?

00;09;34;26 - 00;09;41;08
Speaker 1
Because we need to identify them so that we can make sure with where we're going aligns with them.

00;09;41;08 - 00;09;52;06
Speaker 1
So we're going to start with non-negotiables. Now, non-negotiables to me are those things that we're just not willing to sacrifice. They're the aspects of our life that

00;09;52;06 - 00;09;53;10
Speaker 1
we hold dear

00;09;53;10 - 00;10;01;11
Speaker 1
and that we refuse to compromise on no matter what. And they might you might consider things you love in your life right now.

00;10;01;13 - 00;10;07;14
Speaker 1
Or maybe it's the things you don't want to let you know. So things you have in your life right now that you don't want to let go of,

00;10;07;14 - 00;10;11;19
Speaker 1
or perhaps are aspects of your life that you currently lack,

00;10;11;19 - 00;10;15;21
Speaker 1
but you're determined to create a future where they are present

00;10;15;21 - 00;10;21;15
Speaker 1
and are non-negotiables will change based on our situation in life.

00;10;21;15 - 00;10;25;00
Speaker 1
What was important to you years ago may not be important to you anymore,

00;10;25;00 - 00;10;46;04
Speaker 1
but I want you to pause and think about different areas of your life and we could go into depth on this one thing. I could have done a podcast, just a non negotiable, but to keep this podcast fairly, you know, short or, you know, a reasonable time frame, I want you to start thinking about some of the non-negotiables in your life.

00;10;46;06 - 00;10;47;20
Speaker 1
You can think about your schedule,

00;10;47;20 - 00;10;50;20
Speaker 1
your family, your health, your wellbeing.

00;10;50;20 - 00;10;56;14
Speaker 1
Consider all those things. What are the things that are super important to you that you will not sacrifice?

00;10;56;14 - 00;11;01;20
Speaker 1
And again, there's no right or wrong. It's just your your thoughts, your non-negotiables.

00;11;01;20 - 00;11;08;17
Speaker 1
Now if you I want to go deeper on when it comes to non-negotiables with you, to really give you an idea of what I'm talking about.

00;11;08;19 - 00;11;10;03
Speaker 1
So let's talk about your career,

00;11;10;03 - 00;11;18;05
Speaker 1
because, hey, that's what we're working on, right? Is finding work that brings you joy, giving you that clarity on what's next for you.

00;11;18;05 - 00;11;22;01
Speaker 1
So when it comes to a career, what are your non-negotiables

00;11;22;01 - 00;11;29;02
Speaker 1
when looking at this ideal career? That's what you want your ideal career. What are the non-negotiables that

00;11;29;02 - 00;11;35;23
Speaker 1
you either want to keep, that you already have, or that you want to have in the future?

00;11;35;26 - 00;11;48;04
Speaker 1
It might be looking at things like, you know, do you desire to use, you know, is it important to you that you use your talents and strengths every day? You know, is mastery of your craft essential to you?

00;11;48;04 - 00;11;55;26
Speaker 1
You know, is seeking rewards and recognition maybe making a global impact or community contribution? Is that important to you?

00;11;55;28 - 00;12;00;27
Speaker 1
When thinking about your career, what role does income and prestige play in your

00;12;00;27 - 00;12;01;29
Speaker 1
and what you do?

00;12;01;29 - 00;12;04;22
Speaker 1
And if you could design your ideal career,

00;12;04;22 - 00;12;09;03
Speaker 1
what would other non-negotiables be that align in that career?

00;12;09;03 - 00;12;13;24
Speaker 1
Again, no right or wrong, no judgment is just what really resonates with you

00;12;13;24 - 00;12;14;25
Speaker 1
now. For me

00;12;14;25 - 00;12;19;26
Speaker 1
today, having purpose and meaning in my career is a non-negotiable.

00;12;19;28 - 00;12;30;06
Speaker 1
I want to be respected and appreciated for my natural gifts and talents. And you know, it's essential that I feel challenged and constantly learning new things.

00;12;30;06 - 00;12;35;24
Speaker 1
Or to me, a job will start to get stale, and then I'm not going to feel satisfied in that anymore.

00;12;35;24 - 00;12;38;13
Speaker 1
That's just me. What does it mean for you?

00;12;38;13 - 00;12;43;10
Speaker 1
Another area to look out for non-negotiables is your home and workspace.

00;12;43;10 - 00;12;46;24
Speaker 1
And think about this like think about your home is,

00;12;46;24 - 00;13;00;22
Speaker 1
you know, are you looking? Would a quiet country setting be vital for your wellbeing? Do you you know you want land and you want space, or do you thrive in an urban environment?

00;13;00;22 - 00;13;03;17
Speaker 1
Again, they're both great, but what's right for you?

00;13;03;17 - 00;13;08;03
Speaker 1
Do you want to own your own home and be established in a community,

00;13;08;03 - 00;13;10;22
Speaker 1
or do you want the freedom that comes with renting?

00;13;10;24 - 00;13;17;07
Speaker 1
They're both great. I've been both places and they both have values. But what's important to you right now?

00;13;17;07 - 00;13;25;25
Speaker 1
Your workspace. Think about that. Do you value a need? A clutter free, clean and organized space?

00;13;25;25 - 00;13;29;10
Speaker 1
Or are you okay with an organized chaos space?

00;13;29;10 - 00;13;31;28
Speaker 1
Which work environment is better for you?

00;13;31;28 - 00;13;34;24
Speaker 1
Do you love having fresh flowers on your desk every day?

00;13;34;24 - 00;13;45;20
Speaker 1
Is that a non-negotiable or would you like it to be now that I brought that up, is that you think like, oh, I would work better if I had fresh flowers on my desk every day? Or are you thinking like, not important?

00;13;45;20 - 00;13;50;23
Speaker 1
Do you value having a team around you so you can feel their energy,

00;13;50;23 - 00;13;55;28
Speaker 1
or do you simply just need a laptop and a cozy coffee shop to work in?

00;13;55;28 - 00;14;21;04
Speaker 1
Again, these are all the things that you probably never thought about. But as we design your next career, your next to work, your next calling, it's important to think about these things. Because if you can align what you build next with all of these things that seem little and insignificant, you are going to create something that brings you so much joy and success.

00;14;21;04 - 00;14;27;05
Speaker 1
Now, obviously with your non-negotiables. And we'll get into this with core values as well. You want to think about your faith

00;14;27;05 - 00;14;34;16
Speaker 1
and your spiritual life. You know, is having time for morning prayer essential for you to start your day,

00;14;34;16 - 00;14;38;21
Speaker 1
or do you need an environment that will allow you to express and share your faith?

00;14;38;21 - 00;14;39;29
Speaker 1
How about your community?

00;14;39;29 - 00;14;43;03
Speaker 1
Is it important to you that you're part of a local church,

00;14;43;03 - 00;14;43;22
Speaker 1
or

00;14;43;22 - 00;14;47;06
Speaker 1
you know is doing something online and in your own time more important to you?

00;14;47;06 - 00;14;50;13
Speaker 1
How involved would you like to be in your faith community?

00;14;50;13 - 00;14;55;26
Speaker 1
What about your finances? Think about your finances. What are your non-negotiables with your finances?

00;14;55;26 - 00;15;01;16
Speaker 1
Do you need to have a certain amount of money in the bank to feel secure?

00;15;01;18 - 00;15;07;27
Speaker 1
Or are you open to investing in starting a business or pursuing professional development?

00;15;07;27 - 00;15;15;02
Speaker 1
Think about even finances when it comes to should you be an entrepreneur? Or should you stick with a traditional career type job

00;15;15;02 - 00;15;23;06
Speaker 1
and that comes with is a steady paycheck crucial to you? Do you want to know that you are getting paid X amount of money every two weeks?

00;15;23;08 - 00;15;29;17
Speaker 1
Or is having a side hustle? Or the freedom to own your own business more important to you?

00;15;29;17 - 00;15;38;09
Speaker 1
Are you little bit of a risk taker and you're willing to step into entrepreneurship? Or do you? You can't stand the thought of the ups and downs of owning your own business.

00;15;38;09 - 00;15;40;01
Speaker 1
These things are important to know.

00;15;40;01 - 00;15;45;02
Speaker 1
And again, they will evolve and change based on your life circumstances.

00;15;45;02 - 00;15;52;27
Speaker 1
What mattered most to me when my three boys were little looks totally different than what my non-negotiables are today.

00;15;52;27 - 00;15;54;19
Speaker 1
So that your non-negotiables.

00;15;54;19 - 00;15;58;07
Speaker 1
Now I want to talk about your core beliefs and values.

00;15;58;07 - 00;16;02;13
Speaker 1
Now you may be wondering, gee, Sherry, shouldn't we have started there? They're more important.

00;16;02;13 - 00;16;06;28
Speaker 1
And I start with non-negotiables. Just because I feel like they're an easier thing to really think about,

00;16;06;28 - 00;16;08;00
Speaker 1
because they do,

00;16;08;00 - 00;16;10;16
Speaker 1
they they do float with us,

00;16;10;16 - 00;16;12;16
Speaker 1
and they're maybe not as strong.

00;16;12;16 - 00;16;25;09
Speaker 1
And here's the thing. Your list of core values will probably be a little shorter than the list of non-negotiables, but they carry a lot more weight, a lot more weight.

00;16;25;09 - 00;16;29;02
Speaker 1
And it's these core values that will drive

00;16;29;02 - 00;16;34;05
Speaker 1
and drive the way you you do work, they will drive the way you live,

00;16;34;05 - 00;16;41;10
Speaker 1
and they are the principles that will shape your life and guide all the decisions you make and give meaning to your actions.

00;16;41;10 - 00;16;45;21
Speaker 1
They should be the foundation upon which your life and career are built,

00;16;45;21 - 00;16;52;18
Speaker 1
and they may be deeply rooted in your faith, shaping how you view the world and the place in your place in it.

00;16;52;18 - 00;17;01;06
Speaker 1
Or perhaps your core values might stem from a commitment to justice, a passion for creativity or belief in the importance of community.

00;17;01;06 - 00;17;02;15
Speaker 1
Whatever they are.

00;17;02;15 - 00;17;08;24
Speaker 1
These core values are what keep you moving forward even when the path is difficult.

00;17;08;24 - 00;17;14;15
Speaker 1
And unlike non-negotiables, they usually don't change a lot. For us,

00;17;14;15 - 00;17;17;15
Speaker 1
our core values are pretty consistent.

00;17;17;15 - 00;17;24;21
Speaker 1
So when trying to think of our core values and maybe you already know them, maybe this is an exercise you've done before. A lot of us have,

00;17;24;21 - 00;17;25;05
Speaker 1
but

00;17;25;05 - 00;17;31;08
Speaker 1
I like to reframe it as consider what truly drives you and your daily decision making.

00;17;31;08 - 00;17;33;19
Speaker 1
And here's a couple of questions you could ask yourself.

00;17;33;19 - 00;17;39;28
Speaker 1
What are the convictions that fuel your ambitions and sustain your spirit?

00;17;39;28 - 00;17;41;06
Speaker 1
What keeps you going?

00;17;41;06 - 00;17;47;22
Speaker 1
Another question to think about with core values is what makes you draw a line in the sand you will not cross.

00;17;47;22 - 00;17;51;13
Speaker 1
You know with my story what happened with my friend, I felt like

00;17;51;13 - 00;17;52;21
Speaker 1
I had to make a decision.

00;17;52;21 - 00;17;56;23
Speaker 1
I felt like there was a line drawn in the sand, and I didn't want to cross that line.

00;17;56;23 - 00;17;58;27
Speaker 1
So what's that line for you?

00;17;58;27 - 00;18;04;18
Speaker 1
And another question to think about when it comes to core values is what do you most want to be known for?

00;18;04;18 - 00;18;09;21
Speaker 1
What's the example you want to set for your family, for your kids? For your grandkids?

00;18;09;21 - 00;18;13;29
Speaker 1
So think about what really drives you for your core values.

00;18;13;29 - 00;18;17;22
Speaker 1
So right now, you should have started your list of non-negotiables

00;18;17;22 - 00;18;22;16
Speaker 1
and then your list of your core values, which, like I said, will probably be shorter, but they'll hold a lot more weight.

00;18;22;16 - 00;18;25;02
Speaker 1
And now we're going to kind of lighten the load a little bit

00;18;25;02 - 00;18;40;02
Speaker 1
and think about your childhood passions and dreams. Now, this might seem like it's out of place in this, but it's really waypoint four is all about just really knowing those internal drivers.

00;18;40;02 - 00;18;45;07
Speaker 1
Like we talked about your strengths and talents. We talked about your skills.

00;18;45;07 - 00;18;58;15
Speaker 1
But now we're really talking about like what inside really drives you to keep going. What drives you to do this or not do that. And when we can take a journey back, as I like to say to your childhood,

00;18;58;15 - 00;19;01;18
Speaker 1
there's going to be some clues that reveal themselves that show you

00;19;01;18 - 00;19;04;02
Speaker 1
what you once held,

00;19;04;02 - 00;19;07;11
Speaker 1
space for that maybe you're not doing anymore.

00;19;07;11 - 00;19;13;27
Speaker 1
And these could be clues to help you and guide you on your journey towards discovering your calling.

00;19;13;27 - 00;19;14;13
Speaker 1
So

00;19;14;13 - 00;19;18;17
Speaker 1
here's how we're going to do this. I want you to think back to a time in your life,

00;19;18;17 - 00;19;28;21
Speaker 1
you know, when when you were free from fear, you were full of daydreaming and pretending and you know there were no limits on what you could do or be.

00;19;28;23 - 00;19;34;06
Speaker 1
You know, you were full of possibilities. Remember that time before somebody squished your your dreams.

00;19;34;06 - 00;19;44;20
Speaker 1
And, you know, aside from being in before the street lights turned on or you had too much screen time for modern kids, you know, there was really nothing stopping you.

00;19;44;20 - 00;19;50;21
Speaker 1
And you might think that I'm about to share a familiar question with you, but it's not that question.

00;19;50;21 - 00;20;08;01
Speaker 1
And the familiar question you might be thinking I'm going to bring up at this point is that what did you want to be when you grew up? You know, what do you want to be when you grow up? But remember our, you know, teachers and parents and, family friends would ask us that all the time, right

00;20;08;01 - 00;20;08;18
Speaker 1
now,

00;20;08;18 - 00;20;19;29
Speaker 1
to me, that that question is useless unless you're like my husband, who knew he wanted to be a professional firefighter since the age of three and went on to achieve that goal and loved it.

00;20;20;02 - 00;20;28;22
Speaker 1
So unless you're like that, and I'm going to guess that you're not, or you probably wouldn't be listening to this podcast right now, that's not that's not you.

00;20;28;22 - 00;20;40;01
Speaker 1
So what I want you to do is think instead on what do you want? Instead of what do you want to be? We're going to reflect on what did you enjoy doing as a kid.

00;20;40;03 - 00;20;44;16
Speaker 1
So think now to not what you wanted to be. I mean,

00;20;44;16 - 00;20;45;12
Speaker 1
like, for instance,

00;20;45;12 - 00;20;58;12
Speaker 1
if somebody had asked me that when I was in third grade, I wanted to be a veterinarian because I love James Herriot's books, and I was fascinated with horses. So if somebody had asked me, what do you want to do when you grow up?

00;20;58;12 - 00;21;04;13
Speaker 1
I would say, I want to be a veterinarian. But you know what? That dream died in middle school when I had to dissect a frog.

00;21;04;13 - 00;21;08;23
Speaker 1
It ended right there. And then I realized, oh, this is not for me.

00;21;08;23 - 00;21;16;11
Speaker 1
So it's not what we wanted to do. It's what we enjoyed or what we want it to be. It's what we enjoyed doing.

00;21;16;13 - 00;21;21;12
Speaker 1
So think back. What were the activities that you would get lost in as a child?

00;21;21;12 - 00;21;24;05
Speaker 1
What did you love spending your time on?

00;21;24;05 - 00;21;35;09
Speaker 1
And here's a key question. This one so important is when you were with your friends, what role did you naturally take? Now some of that was your strengths shining through

00;21;35;09 - 00;21;36;21
Speaker 1
and what do I mean for that?

00;21;36;23 - 00;21;43;19
Speaker 1
So if you think that maybe you were playing school and when you were playing school, were you the teacher driven by a desire to teach

00;21;43;19 - 00;21;50;14
Speaker 1
or did you love you played the teacher, but it was because you loved organizing and setting up the pretend classroom.

00;21;50;14 - 00;21;55;23
Speaker 1
Or maybe your role when playing school was you were the principal in charge of everything,

00;21;55;23 - 00;21;59;04
Speaker 1
or maybe you were the student eager to learn.

00;21;59;06 - 00;22;02;03
Speaker 1
Or maybe you played the student that was the class clown.

00;22;02;03 - 00;22;04;26
Speaker 1
So what role did you play

00;22;04;26 - 00;22;06;08
Speaker 1
when you were with your friends,

00;22;06;08 - 00;22;15;10
Speaker 1
you know or think about? Did you spend hours playing with Legos and building things? And if you did, did you prefer to follow all the instructions?

00;22;15;10 - 00;22;21;09
Speaker 1
What did you love? To create something entirely of your own and throw out the instructions?

00;22;21;11 - 00;22;29;28
Speaker 1
Did you love to explore the outside every day? You know, climb? You spent hours climbing trees or searching for creatures great and small?

00;22;29;28 - 00;22;37;03
Speaker 1
Little James Herriot there. You know, did you spend that time just just playing and dreaming or exploring?

00;22;37;03 - 00;22;41;28
Speaker 1
Or did you dream of being a rock star? Sing it into a mic with spotlight on you.

00;22;42;00 - 00;22;50;29
Speaker 1
You know, it's funny, one of my clients told me this as a child, and today she's so confident on social media. She loves doing live videos and thriving in the spotlight.

00;22;50;29 - 00;22;55;10
Speaker 1
Or did you play sports? And if you were on a sports team, were you the captain

00;22;55;10 - 00;22;57;04
Speaker 1
or were you a support player?

00;22;57;04 - 00;23;01;18
Speaker 1
Were you the star or were you the cheerleader of the team?

00;23;01;18 - 00;23;06;23
Speaker 1
So think about those roles that you played as a kid, and think about the things you enjoyed doing.

00;23;06;23 - 00;23;08;01
Speaker 1
Again, it's not

00;23;08;01 - 00;23;10;22
Speaker 1
what you wanted to be, but what you were doing.

00;23;10;22 - 00;23;13;16
Speaker 1
Okay, so we had a lot of work ahead of us.

00;23;13;16 - 00;23;20;02
Speaker 1
And hopefully as you've been listening, you've been jotting down some things. So let's just kind of wrap things up here and review.

00;23;20;02 - 00;23;20;19
Speaker 1
So

00;23;20;19 - 00;23;30;06
Speaker 1
what I would love for you to do is spend time really working on your list of non-negotiables, your core values, and thinking about what you love to do as a kid.

00;23;30;06 - 00;23;39;24
Speaker 1
Bring back those hobbies and passions you once had and and maybe rekindle hobbies and passions you have as an adult too. Or dreams you want to explore in the future.

00;23;39;24 - 00;23;54;19
Speaker 1
And if you've downloaded the discover and you're calling, workbook, there's space inside the workbook for you to jot down your answers. And there's even some other questions there to prompt some, you know, new thoughts for you to use the workbook.

00;23;54;19 - 00;24;03;05
Speaker 1
If you haven't downloaded it yet, the link is in the show notes. And then once you have your list of all these things we've been talking about,

00;24;03;05 - 00;24;04;06
Speaker 1
put it aside,

00;24;04;06 - 00;24;08;03
Speaker 1
create your list and then let it sit for 2440 eight hours

00;24;08;03 - 00;24;09;24
Speaker 1
and then go back to it

00;24;09;24 - 00;24;16;08
Speaker 1
and with fresh eyes, see what patterns there might be. See what words jump out to you.

00;24;16;09 - 00;24;17;14
Speaker 1
Highlight them.

00;24;17;14 - 00;24;29;26
Speaker 1
Circle them. Look for the clues to find in your calendar. They're going to be hidden inside of this work, and they may be hidden, but when you start to look for the clues, you'll start to see them.

00;24;29;26 - 00;24;36;23
Speaker 1
And then what I would love for you to do is share your discoveries in the discover in your Calling Facebook group.

00;24;36;26 - 00;24;43;22
Speaker 1
This group is designed for you to have conversations with other like minded women who are on the same journey as you.

00;24;43;22 - 00;24;55;13
Speaker 1
It's also your place to not just share your insights and hearts, but to ask questions. I'm there to help you. So if you get stuck on this exercise, let me know and I'll try to coach you through it.

00;24;55;15 - 00;25;03;21
Speaker 1
If there's some insights you find, let's celebrate those! So share what you discover in the Discover in your Calling Facebook group

00;25;03;21 - 00;25;13;29
Speaker 1
and make sure you keep taking this journey with us. Come back next Tuesday when we move on to waypoint number five

00;25;13;29 - 00;25;17;16
Speaker 1
and I call this your purpose is the problem.

00;25;17;16 - 00;25;28;00
Speaker 1
And this is where we're going to step outside of this introspective, waypoints that we've been working on and look externally to find your calling.

00;25;28;03 - 00;25;45;19
Speaker 1
And it's what I like to call the heart strings and soul fire phase. It's where you will start defining precisely what problem you've been positioned to solve. And this is a huge step towards finding your true calling.

00;25;45;19 - 00;25;46;24
Speaker 1
All right my friends,

00;25;46;24 - 00;25;52;26
Speaker 1
again, I'm over in the Facebook community waiting for you to join me if you haven't yet. And if you have, join me.

00;25;52;26 - 00;26;18;08
Speaker 1
Make sure you let us know how how this exercise goes and hit me up in the DMs too. If you have any questions, I'm hanging out on Facebook. Mostly so, you know, DM me over there or send me an email at Sherry at Sherry Motor Co. Com I can't wait to hear from you. Have fun with this exercise of looking at your non-negotiables, your core values, and going back and thinking about what did you love doing as a kid?

00;26;18;10 - 00;26;21;09
Speaker 1
All right, my friend, until next Tuesday. Have a great week.
