It’s a journey of self-discovery and personal growth that I’m excited to take with you.
I’m your host, Sheri– a wife, boy mom, gramma, and former top network marketing leader turned Gallup-Certified Strengths Coach. My journey began in the network marketing industry, where I discovered the power of Gallup’s Clifton Strengths Assessment. While this understanding propelled me to the top, it also revealed the mismatch between my gifts and my career. Despite outward success, I felt the inner turmoil of wasted talents and knew I had to pivot, even though the path wasn’t clear.
I spent three long years navigating this uncertainty, following the wrong “experts,” and investing in courses misaligned with my values. Ultimately, I realized that joy and success in my next career would only come from aligning my natural talents with my life's vision and mission.
From this revelation, I embarked on a journey of self-discovery, developing a process to clarify my purpose and align it with my God-given strengths. Now, I’m excited to share everything I’ve learned with you through this podcast!
If you're ready to navigate your strengths, embrace a career change, and discover your true calling, this podcast is for you. This isn’t just another self-help podcast. It’s a guide, a companion, and a source of inspiration on your journey to career purpose and fulfillment.
So, lace up those shoes, pop in your earbuds, and let’s get going! Join me on Discovering Your Calling, and let's create a life of freedom, flexibility, and impact together.

Speaker 1
Welcome back, my friend, to the Discovering Your Calling Academy that we have been doing in this eight week challenge.
00;00;58;05 - 00;01;22;13
Speaker 1
And I am your podcast host and your coach on this journey. And if you've been following along on our eight week Discovering Your Calling challenge, you should be starting to have some clarity on a few good ideas that could lead you to your ideal career or calling. Now, if you're sitting here thinking like I don't cherry, don't worry, I've got you.
00;01;22;17 - 00;01;29;20
Speaker 1
Hold on for a minute. Don't go away. Don't click off. But if you do feel like you have some clarity,
00;01;29;20 - 00;01;41;11
Speaker 1
then you're going to really, really enjoy this episode. Because inside this episode, which is way point number six of our eight waypoints to discover your calling,
00;01;41;11 - 00;01;49;03
Speaker 1
this is your getting prepared for impact and income. And isn't that what we're looking for?
00;01;49;05 - 00;02;05;05
Speaker 1
Like we're looking for the way to have a fulfilling and purpose driven career. That impact that we can make in other people's lives and in our own lives. But of course, we also want to make an income, right? We have bills to pay.
00;02;05;05 - 00;02;09;18
Speaker 1
And whether that is a full time career change for you, or maybe it's a side hustle.
00;02;09;20 - 00;02;12;27
Speaker 1
You know, for most of us, income is important.
00;02;12;27 - 00;02;25;28
Speaker 1
We're also going to break down how to choose the best idea to move forward with based on the impact you can make and its income potential.
00;02;25;28 - 00;02;35;29
Speaker 1
And I'm also going to show you what steps that you can start taking right now, this week, to start making that impact. You don't have to wait for that.
00;02;35;29 - 00;02;43;02
Speaker 1
Now, my friend, if you are one that's sitting here a little confused and feeling like, oh my gosh, Sherry, I've been listening.
00;02;43;02 - 00;02;51;27
Speaker 1
But I still I have no idea. I have no idea what my calling is, and I don't feel like I'm any closer than I was when I started listening to the podcast.
00;02;51;27 - 00;02;53;29
Speaker 1
No one. Take a deep breath.
00;02;53;29 - 00;02;54;27
Speaker 1
Let it go.
00;02;54;27 - 00;02;56;26
Speaker 1
And know that you're not alone.
00;02;56;26 - 00;02;58;29
Speaker 1
A lot of times I see this happen,
00;02;58;29 - 00;03;15;09
Speaker 1
and it's discovering your calling Academy. Even when I'm working really closely with clients around. Now they start to get frustrated because they don't feel like they're any closer to finding their calling. And usually what the problem is, is they're stuck in this tunnel vision.
00;03;15;11 - 00;03;19;08
Speaker 1
And what do I mean by that? What happens is, you know,
00;03;19;08 - 00;03;25;06
Speaker 1
you've been doing the same career for ten, 15, maybe 20 or more years
00;03;25;06 - 00;03;36;09
Speaker 1
and we get stuck in this place that that's all we really know. I that happened to me when I was in Mary Kay. I thought it was the end all. You know, this was the career forever for me.
00;03;36;11 - 00;03;43;24
Speaker 1
But it wasn't until I started peeking outside the curtain that I realized, like, oh my word, there's so many possibilities out there.
00;03;43;24 - 00;03;52;15
Speaker 1
And that's what I'm where I want you to get to today is I want to encourage you to become a possibility thinker.
00;03;52;15 - 00;03;58;19
Speaker 1
And that might mean that you need to be willing to think outside the box.
00;03;58;19 - 00;03;59;08
Speaker 1
Today
00;03;59;08 - 00;04;04;24
Speaker 1
and just be open, that there could be a lot of other possibilities out there for you.
00;04;04;24 - 00;04;14;25
Speaker 1
But we have to get our brain and our mind in this open place that we're willing to see what else is out there, to peek outside that curtain and get,
00;04;14;25 - 00;04;19;28
Speaker 1
you know, unstuck from just seeing what we've known for the last ten, 15, 20 years.
00;04;20;00 - 00;04;21;16
Speaker 1
I hope that makes sense to you
00;04;21;16 - 00;04;33;04
Speaker 1
and kind of to start getting you in this possibility thinking mode. I want to share a huge example of this. And you may have heard of Miss Rachel.
00;04;33;04 - 00;04;40;13
Speaker 1
I'm pretty sure if you have a two year old or under in your household, you have heard of her.
00;04;40;13 - 00;04;46;17
Speaker 1
And if you haven't asked somebody that does have a two year old in their house or one year, 2 or 3 year old,
00;04;46;17 - 00;04;47;19
Speaker 1
but she is.
00;04;47;19 - 00;04;59;06
Speaker 1
Miss Rachel is a former preschool teacher who turned her passion into a wildly successful business by creating a YouTube channel for children.
00;04;59;06 - 00;05;07;18
Speaker 1
My grandson is obsessed with her show, or at least he used to be. He's he's kind of outgrowing her a little bit now, but
00;05;07;18 - 00;05;10;08
Speaker 1
he's also obsessed. Obsessed with Kermit the Frog.
00;05;10;08 - 00;05;14;15
Speaker 1
But anyway, Miss Rachel identified a problem.
00;05;14;17 - 00;05;17;06
Speaker 1
She used her passion to solve it,
00;05;17;06 - 00;05;22;20
Speaker 1
and then she has turned it into a multi-million dollar business.
00;05;22;20 - 00;05;28;13
Speaker 1
And that's exactly what thinking outside the box box looks like.
00;05;28;13 - 00;05;34;07
Speaker 1
And there are endless possibilities out there waiting for you to discover them.
00;05;34;07 - 00;05;36;12
Speaker 1
But we just have to be open to them.
00;05;36;12 - 00;05;41;06
Speaker 1
So if you haven't heard of her, check out Miss Rachel and then scroll YouTube.
00;05;41;07 - 00;05;45;25
Speaker 1
This is another way to get think outside the box. Just scroll YouTube. Look
00;05;45;25 - 00;06;05;00
Speaker 1
for the most unique, weirdest, craziest businesses out there. And I'm not saying that's what you should be doing necessarily, but I just want you to be realize that there are so many people doing so many things out there and making really good
00;06;05;00 - 00;06;07;23
Speaker 1
income from them, while making an impact.
00;06;07;23 - 00;06;08;07
Speaker 1
Okay,
00;06;08;07 - 00;06;24;03
Speaker 1
I'm going to come off that soapbox now because I just want you to be in that mindset, okay? Because it might be the reason that you're still not making progress is that you just have gotten yourself stuck in this mindset of staying within your own comfort zone box.
00;06;24;03 - 00;06;36;19
Speaker 1
All right. Back to today, though. So in this waypoint we're going to go back to those one, 2 or 3 ideas that you came up with in last week's episode.
00;06;36;21 - 00;06;38;20
Speaker 1
And waypoint number four.
00;06;38;20 - 00;06;46;15
Speaker 1
Your goal was to come up with those one, two, no more than three purpose driven problems that you're called to solve.
00;06;46;15 - 00;06;58;08
Speaker 1
We're going to take those problems today, and I'm going to share with you some steps to qualify them or validate them to see if they are an idea that you could move forward with.
00;06;58;08 - 00;07;02;16
Speaker 1
And this process is going to help you determine which of those
00;07;02;16 - 00;07;05;01
Speaker 1
one, 2 or 3 ideas you had
00;07;05;01 - 00;07;09;23
Speaker 1
will make the biggest impact, but will also create income for you.
00;07;09;23 - 00;07;13;02
Speaker 1
So what we're going to do is we're going to go through four test
00;07;13;02 - 00;07;15;21
Speaker 1
to qualify or validate your idea.
00;07;15;21 - 00;07;19;06
Speaker 1
And then I have an action step for you to take today as well.
00;07;19;08 - 00;07;21;10
Speaker 1
All right. And then we'll leave you with your self work.
00;07;21;10 - 00;07;39;00
Speaker 1
So let's see. Let's jump into this four steps to qualify. So what are the four steps to qualify your idea? One. You need to see does it align with your natural talents and strengths. Now you should have done that in waypoint five. And that should have already been done.
00;07;39;02 - 00;07;44;20
Speaker 1
So we can check that one off. If you didn't do that yet. Go back and do that. Go back and listen to,
00;07;44;20 - 00;07;48;24
Speaker 1
last week's episode on waypoint five and ballot and,
00;07;48;24 - 00;07;54;05
Speaker 1
make sure that your purpose driven problem you want to solve aligns with your natural strengths.
00;07;54;05 - 00;07;56;23
Speaker 1
But that's the first step you want to do to validate your idea.
00;07;56;25 - 00;07;59;06
Speaker 1
Number two is will someone buy it?
00;07;59;06 - 00;08;03;14
Speaker 1
And I have eight reasons people will spend their hard earned money that will go through today.
00;08;03;14 - 00;08;15;04
Speaker 1
The third way to validate it is can you identify someone who would be interested in the product, service or program you want to offer? And it may not be an individual person, but maybe it's,
00;08;15;04 - 00;08;16;09
Speaker 1
an organization.
00;08;16;11 - 00;08;19;10
Speaker 1
So can you identify someone who would be interested in it?
00;08;19;10 - 00;08;24;03
Speaker 1
Basically. Are there people out there looking for the looking for this product right now?
00;08;24;03 - 00;08;36;10
Speaker 1
The fourth thing is one of my favorites. And I'm not going to tell you what it is right now. You got to keep listening for this one. This one's one of my favorite. And I promise you it's probably one that nobody's ever shared with you before.
00;08;36;12 - 00;08;42;29
Speaker 1
And then, like I said, I'm going to give you some action steps to take this week. Super easy action. Well, maybe they're not easy,
00;08;42;29 - 00;08;50;15
Speaker 1
but they're great action steps to take. Okay, so you ready. Let's validate these ideas. So choose one
00;08;50;15 - 00;08;53;21
Speaker 1
of your purpose driven problems you want to solve.
00;08;53;21 - 00;08;55;00
Speaker 1
And let's validate it
00;08;55;00 - 00;09;02;03
Speaker 1
again. Because we've already you should have already validated whether or not it aligns with your natural strengths.
00;09;02;03 - 00;09;03;06
Speaker 1
In last
00;09;03;06 - 00;09;13;22
Speaker 1
week's episode or at waypoint five, we're going to move right into step number two or test number two I should say, which is will someone buy it?
00;09;13;22 - 00;09;15;28
Speaker 1
Now I have eight reasons
00;09;15;28 - 00;09;17;24
Speaker 1
that people will spend their money.
00;09;17;24 - 00;09;26;22
Speaker 1
I have seen some people share ten reasons people would spend the money, but really, I like to narrow it down to about eight main reasons people will part with their money.
00;09;26;24 - 00;09;30;04
Speaker 1
As I go through these eight reasons.
00;09;30;04 - 00;09;34;20
Speaker 1
Think about does your idea fall underneath these eight?
00;09;34;20 - 00;09;37;02
Speaker 1
I would also encourage you to think about
00;09;37;02 - 00;09;41;25
Speaker 1
how you determine whether or not you spend your money on something,
00;09;41;25 - 00;09;43;27
Speaker 1
and I guarantee that
00;09;43;27 - 00;09;48;06
Speaker 1
you probably do this already without being aware that you're doing it.
00;09;48;06 - 00;09;56;03
Speaker 1
Now, if you want to see this and writing, I'm going to create a PDF document that I will share in the discussion.
00;09;56;03 - 00;09;58;02
Speaker 1
Your calling challenge,
00;09;58;02 - 00;10;08;08
Speaker 1
Facebook community. So if you'd like to see this in written PDF, I'm going to pop this over in the Facebook community where you can just grab it and have it easy to read.
00;10;08;08 - 00;10;11;19
Speaker 1
Okay, so the eight reasons people will spend their money.
00;10;11;19 - 00;10;15;14
Speaker 1
Number one, they will spend their money to make more money.
00;10;15;14 - 00;10;16;28
Speaker 1
You know, that just makes sense.
00;10;16;28 - 00;10;30;02
Speaker 1
If if what you're showing them or sharing with them will help them make more money, they're willing to spend more money. Think about stock options, investments, crypto. You know, I don't understand that at all. But,
00;10;30;05 - 00;10;32;06
Speaker 1
you know, that's an idea of it.
00;10;32;06 - 00;10;37;27
Speaker 1
They have an opportunity. They see where it can help them make more money. They're willing to to invest in it.
00;10;37;27 - 00;10;42;05
Speaker 1
Second reason people will spend their hard earned money is to feel better.
00;10;42;05 - 00;10;58;26
Speaker 1
And that might be medical services, of course. But also think massages, gyms, yoga, organic foods, anything that's going to be a product or a service that will help improve physical or mental health.
00;10;58;26 - 00;11;04;16
Speaker 1
So to feel better and I don't mean, oh, here's Advil, didn't get rid of your headache.
00;11;04;18 - 00;11;13;14
Speaker 1
It's just how will it make them feel better. Like I will spend money on organic foods because it feels good to me to eat that way
00;11;13;14 - 00;11;17;27
Speaker 1
my body feels better when I take care of it. That's important to me.
00;11;17;27 - 00;11;18;25
Speaker 1
Number three
00;11;18;25 - 00;11;31;04
Speaker 1
people will spend money to have better relationships. Now, whether that's personal or work related relationships, people will invest in that relationship building.
00;11;31;08 - 00;11;35;16
Speaker 1
Now think about team workshops that would fall underneath this,
00;11;35;19 - 00;11;41;07
Speaker 1
coaching. They may do couples coaching. They may do how do
00;11;41;07 - 00;11;44;08
Speaker 1
have a better relationship with my teenage daughter?
00;11;44;08 - 00;11;49;24
Speaker 1
It could be couples retreats. It could be things like that. It could be a book on how to have better relationships.
00;11;49;24 - 00;11;52;01
Speaker 1
So people will spend money for that reason.
00;11;52;01 - 00;11;58;17
Speaker 1
Number four, people will spend money to save time or improve performance.
00;11;58;17 - 00;12;06;00
Speaker 1
Now, this would include anything that helps them perform a task maybe more efficiently.
00;12;06;00 - 00;12;09;18
Speaker 1
Or it could just be that they could outsource it altogether.
00;12;09;18 - 00;12;14;10
Speaker 1
Virtual assistants would fall underneath their social media managers.
00;12;14;10 - 00;12;15;10
Speaker 1
Even think,
00;12;15;10 - 00;12;19;24
Speaker 1
like lawn care services, meal planning.
00;12;19;24 - 00;12;24;25
Speaker 1
You know, anything again, that's going to save somebody's time or improve their performance.
00;12;24;27 - 00;12;26;18
Speaker 1
Even hiring a,
00;12;26;20 - 00;12;27;15
Speaker 1
a physical,
00;12;27;15 - 00;12;32;26
Speaker 1
not therapist, but a trainer because it's going to improve their performance.
00;12;32;26 - 00;12;36;07
Speaker 1
So does your idea fall under that category?
00;12;36;07 - 00;12;45;28
Speaker 1
And sometimes, again, this is where you need to think outside the box of like be creative. Like, oh yeah, this definitely could because at first you might think, oh no, that doesn't fit there.
00;12;45;28 - 00;12;48;15
Speaker 1
But when you really give it some thought,
00;12;48;17 - 00;13;02;17
Speaker 1
you can a lot of times just make things work under these categories that when you get creative and if you get stuck on any of these pop over again, that's what the Facebook communities for is like, Sherry, this is my idea to
00;13;02;17 - 00;13;05;28
Speaker 1
help me go through the eight financial, you know, the eight reasons people spend money.
00;13;05;28 - 00;13;09;16
Speaker 1
Help me figure out does this really, you know, qualify underneath here?
00;13;09;16 - 00;13;10;18
Speaker 1
Okay, number five,
00;13;10;18 - 00;13;21;26
Speaker 1
people will pay money to experience something. This one is huge today. Huge especially with millennials, Gen Z and even Gen X.
00;13;21;26 - 00;13;36;16
Speaker 1
They want experiences and so do a lot of the rest of us travel, extreme sports, baking classes, wine tasting, breweries, retreats, even like going to a Vrbo rental.
00;13;36;18 - 00;13;48;09
Speaker 1
It's all about creating memorable moments. People will pay a lot of money for that today. That is a priority of a lot of the younger. A lot of you out there.
00;13;48;11 - 00;13;57;15
Speaker 1
And that's something I see with my own, you know, one of my, my younger son. And that's something to my husband and I, we're at that that place right now in life that that's important to us.
00;13;57;17 - 00;14;01;27
Speaker 1
Number six, people will spend their money to look better
00;14;01;27 - 00;14;08;25
Speaker 1
and that can be their physical experience. It could be status that they look better status wise.
00;14;08;25 - 00;14;21;00
Speaker 1
It could be that their home looks better. It could be that their business looks better. So it could be beauty services. That's usually what we think about first, but it could also be your home decor would fall underneath here.
00;14;21;02 - 00;14;26;16
Speaker 1
It could also be professional development that just enhances somebody's somebody's public image.
00;14;26;19 - 00;14;35;06
Speaker 1
So again get a little creative. Does what you're thinking help somebody look better, whether it be physical or status wise?
00;14;35;06 - 00;14;39;23
Speaker 1
Number seven, people will spend money to protect themselves.
00;14;39;23 - 00;14;46;09
Speaker 1
And that could be preventative health measures. It could be for financial protection
00;14;46;09 - 00;14;49;06
Speaker 1
and advice. It could be cyber security.
00;14;49;09 - 00;15;06;25
Speaker 1
It can be home security. It could be insurance. It could even be career security. What do they have to do? Like that's a reason a lot of times people will go and get a master's degree. They feel like that master's degree is going to protect them in their current career field, so they don't get fired, you know?
00;15;06;25 - 00;15;09;12
Speaker 1
And then the last reason that I have for you today
00;15;09;12 - 00;15;10;00
Speaker 1
is
00;15;10;00 - 00;15;16;05
Speaker 1
the eighth reason people will spend their hard earned money is for personal or professional development.
00;15;16;05 - 00;15;17;26
Speaker 1
People buy
00;15;17;26 - 00;15;36;02
Speaker 1
things that help them grow. And, you know, whether it be education, books, coaching, workshops, assessing that people will spend money for that preferred professional, especially for a lot of people, or personal development.
00;15;36;02 - 00;15;45;20
Speaker 1
So my friend, how do you do? When did does your idea fall under at least one of these categories?
00;15;45;20 - 00;15;48;26
Speaker 1
And the more categories the better.
00;15;48;26 - 00;15;57;00
Speaker 1
Some carrot. Some ideas can fall under a lot of different categories, which really helps validate it.
00;15;57;00 - 00;15;58;24
Speaker 1
So think go through that
00;15;58;24 - 00;16;02;16
Speaker 1
those steps. Then we're going to move on to test number three.
00;16;02;16 - 00;16;04;29
Speaker 1
Who needs this service.
00;16;04;29 - 00;16;12;11
Speaker 1
So when you think about the problem that you see and the solution it solves, who do you know
00;16;12;11 - 00;16;15;15
Speaker 1
who needs that support or that product?
00;16;15;15 - 00;16;22;18
Speaker 1
Now you might immediately think of a neighbor or a family member or a coworker, but it could also be,
00;16;22;18 - 00;16;24;28
Speaker 1
a business or organization
00;16;24;28 - 00;16;26;15
Speaker 1
or a group of people.
00;16;26;15 - 00;16;31;27
Speaker 1
You may personally know them and be able to name them, which is excellent. If you can.
00;16;31;29 - 00;16;37;26
Speaker 1
But it also might just be you may not know them personally, but, you know, of this type of people.
00;16;37;28 - 00;16;38;12
Speaker 1
So
00;16;38;12 - 00;16;44;25
Speaker 1
you can also think about is there a business already offering this type of service
00;16;44;25 - 00;16;49;16
Speaker 1
that maybe you would love to just go and work for or work with?
00;16;49;16 - 00;16;55;17
Speaker 1
Align yourself with another company. Maybe you don't need to start your own business, but is there another business that
00;16;55;17 - 00;17;00;06
Speaker 1
you know is already solving this problem and you just want to go get a job with them?
00;17;00;06 - 00;17;01;10
Speaker 1
You can also think about,
00;17;01;12 - 00;17;01;27
Speaker 1
you know,
00;17;01;27 - 00;17;05;03
Speaker 1
identifying the type of people
00;17;05;03 - 00;17;14;25
Speaker 1
who would probably love a service like this. So again, you may not know them specifically, but you know, the type of people who are looking for this.
00;17;14;25 - 00;17;17;03
Speaker 1
Now, here's the thing. If
00;17;17;03 - 00;17;18;08
Speaker 1
naming
00;17;18;08 - 00;17;24;13
Speaker 1
somebody specific or the type of person or a company already doing this is a struggle to do,
00;17;24;13 - 00;17;29;28
Speaker 1
it might be a sign that maybe this is not a valid idea,
00;17;29;28 - 00;17;38;21
Speaker 1
and you might want to sit with that a little bit longer or go ask your friends, does anybody else know of somebody who might be looking for this kind of service
00;17;38;21 - 00;17;40;00
Speaker 1
or product?
00;17;40;02 - 00;17;43;09
Speaker 1
Because we want to make sure that there are people out there looking for it.
00;17;43;09 - 00;17;54;00
Speaker 1
And if, on the other hand, you can name several people or individuals, individuals or organizations that would
00;17;54;00 - 00;18;01;07
Speaker 1
use this type of service or product, then hooray for you. You are really on to something great.
00;18;01;07 - 00;18;01;24
Speaker 1
Okay,
00;18;01;24 - 00;18;05;22
Speaker 1
so let's keep going to this last test.
00;18;05;22 - 00;18;12;06
Speaker 1
One more test that your idea needs to pass in order to move on to the next step.
00;18;12;06 - 00;18;20;24
Speaker 1
And this is test number four. And this is the one I so love. This is the one I said that you've probably never heard of before,
00;18;20;24 - 00;18;23;00
Speaker 1
but you may have already been doing it.
00;18;23;00 - 00;18;31;23
Speaker 1
And that is test number four is would you get excited talking about this idea around a campfire?
00;18;31;23 - 00;18;44;00
Speaker 1
And don't get hung up? If campfires aren't your thing, then could you get excited talking about this idea over a glass, a wine, or a cup of coffee with someone?
00;18;44;00 - 00;18;56;03
Speaker 1
The big takeaway here isn't about the campfire. It's could you get excited discussing your purpose driven problem over and over and over again? And if so,
00;18;56;03 - 00;19;00;18
Speaker 1
you definitely might be on to something of fantastic idea for yourself.
00;19;00;18 - 00;19;20;23
Speaker 1
And this is a real thing here I want to share. This happened with me. This is one of the main reasons I became a Gallup certified Clifton Strengths coach, and I vividly remember discussing Cliftonstrengths sitting around a campfire with my son and his wife up in Maine.
00;19;20;25 - 00;19;29;23
Speaker 1
And when I first really understood Cliftonstrengths, I talked about it to everybody, including on vacations around this campfire,
00;19;29;23 - 00;19;35;09
Speaker 1
and they both knew that I was in the process of leaving my direct sales career,
00;19;35;09 - 00;19;41;09
Speaker 1
but that I was also struggling to figure out what I really wanted to do at that point in my life.
00;19;41;09 - 00;19;47;21
Speaker 1
But it was a few months later, after that summer, of sitting around the campfire talking about it,
00;19;47;21 - 00;19;50;29
Speaker 1
that we were standing in my son's kitchen,
00;19;50;29 - 00;19;54;03
Speaker 1
and I remember being there at the kitchen counter
00;19;54;03 - 00;19;56;22
Speaker 1
and talking to my daughter in law, Lauren,
00;19;56;22 - 00;20;00;08
Speaker 1
about Cliftonstrengths and about what I wanted to do.
00;20;00;10 - 00;20;22;02
Speaker 1
And I remember her turning to me and saying, that's what you need to pursue. So you talk about Cliftonstrengths all the time, just go get certified. You see, I was hesitant to get certified because it's a big investment. I think it was like $7,000 at the time for me to get certified. That was a huge chunk of money for me,
00;20;22;02 - 00;20;28;25
Speaker 1
so I was hesitant to do it, but she was the one that really pushed me in a good way to go and do that.
00;20;28;28 - 00;20;44;11
Speaker 1
And that conversation around the campfire and the kitchen counter really inspired me to go invest in becoming a coach, a Gallup certified Cliftonstrengths coach coach. And that's a decision that I will forever be grateful for.
00;20;44;11 - 00;20;45;11
Speaker 1
And yes,
00;20;45;11 - 00;20;55;13
Speaker 1
four years later, I still get excited about talking about the strengths around a campfire or coffee or wine. So, my friend,
00;20;55;13 - 00;21;03;24
Speaker 1
can't you get excited discussing the problem you want to solve and your plan for solving it
00;21;03;24 - 00;21;07;29
Speaker 1
around a campfire or over a glass of wine, or over a cup of coffee.
00;21;07;29 - 00;21;15;00
Speaker 1
And again, if you can then chuck your idea. Just pass the fourth test.
00;21;15;00 - 00;21;17;13
Speaker 1
Okay, so let's pause here for a moment.
00;21;17;13 - 00;21;24;02
Speaker 1
And I want you to actually take we're going to take a break here and have a mindset moment
00;21;24;02 - 00;21;28;11
Speaker 1
because we've been talking about a lot of ideas, a lot of things.
00;21;28;11 - 00;21;32;18
Speaker 1
And sometimes at this point
00;21;32;18 - 00;21;41;20
Speaker 1
when we start feeling our mind filling our mind with all these possibilities and getting into this mode of like, oh my gosh, I'm so excited about this.
00;21;41;20 - 00;21;46;02
Speaker 1
This is where Fearful Fred likes to show up
00;21;46;02 - 00;21;50;04
Speaker 1
and he can pop in on this conversation any time.
00;21;50;04 - 00;21;57;00
Speaker 1
And he's going to start putting thoughts in your brain like, well, that's a stupid idea. That's not going to work,
00;21;57;00 - 00;22;05;04
Speaker 1
or so-and-so is already doing that. Why should you do it to or when you're not qualified to do that? How would you ever do that?
00;22;05;04 - 00;22;07;16
Speaker 1
And you'd have to go back to college to get a degree.
00;22;07;16 - 00;22;08;01
Speaker 1
And
00;22;08;01 - 00;22;14;16
Speaker 1
here's the thing. Fearful Fred is always going to look for the negative aspects. And he may not be right at all.
00;22;14;16 - 00;22;15;03
Speaker 1
Now,
00;22;15;03 - 00;22;21;20
Speaker 1
later on in week nine of this yes, eight week challenge, it's a bonus week. I'm going to do.
00;22;21;20 - 00;22;29;23
Speaker 1
I am going to break down a lot of these mindset issues that pop in a lot of the things that Fearful Fred wants to talk about,
00;22;29;23 - 00;22;32;07
Speaker 1
but I don't want you to wait until that.
00;22;32;07 - 00;22;37;01
Speaker 1
Week nine. Let's break down these challenges and barriers right now.
00;22;37;01 - 00;22;39;07
Speaker 1
So if you find yourself
00;22;39;07 - 00;22;56;05
Speaker 1
slipping or getting stuck or feeling like fear for Fred is just in your head and you can't get him out, then pop over to the Discover Your Calling eight Week Challenge Facebook group. I am going to share the link in the show notes again, if you're not on there yet
00;22;56;05 - 00;22;58;20
Speaker 1
and share what's coming up for you.
00;22;58;27 - 00;23;03;14
Speaker 1
So you know what, Sherry, help! Reach out. Tag me. Just say help.
00;23;03;14 - 00;23;17;12
Speaker 1
This is my mindset issue. This is what fearful Fred is saying to me. Help me work through it and I'll do some coaching inside there. So I'll either type in some notes or maybe I'll pop on live, do some videos if I see the same issue popping up.
00;23;17;12 - 00;23;30;09
Speaker 1
For a lot of people, that's what the group's there for. I want you to share your wins, but I also want to share what's getting stuck. So just be aware that it's common for feel fearful. Fred. You can't say that,
00;23;30;09 - 00;23;33;21
Speaker 1
to show up right now, but don't let him stop you,
00;23;33;21 - 00;23;34;09
Speaker 1
okay?
00;23;34;09 - 00;23;36;23
Speaker 1
Ooh, that's a lot. Let me take a sip of water.
00;23;36;25 - 00;23;38;02
Speaker 1
And let's keep going. Here.
00;23;38;02 - 00;23;40;28
Speaker 1
So the last thing to look at,
00;23;40;28 - 00;23;46;11
Speaker 1
if your idea passed through all the other steps,
00;23;46;11 - 00;23;51;06
Speaker 1
we're going to look at one more action. Step two. Take.
00;23;51;06 - 00;23;55;18
Speaker 1
But make sure it's it's been validated by the four other tasks.
00;23;55;18 - 00;23;58;24
Speaker 1
If it does that then here's the next step.
00;23;58;24 - 00;24;02;21
Speaker 1
Go serve someone. Yes, get an action
00;24;02;21 - 00;24;07;02
Speaker 1
and go from being in your head to action steps.
00;24;07;02 - 00;24;09;19
Speaker 1
Go do the thing you're thinking about
00;24;09;19 - 00;24;21;18
Speaker 1
now. What does that look like? It doesn't mean you need to go, you know, get hired for a new job yet, or that you need to even go start your own business. Yet. We're not there yet. Yet.
00;24;21;18 - 00;24;27;22
Speaker 1
But what I some ideas that you could do to keep validating. Remember, that's all we're doing right now.
00;24;27;22 - 00;24;36;27
Speaker 1
We're just kind of testing this. We're testing the waters to see is this really the direction I want to go? Is this really what I'm called to do?
00;24;36;27 - 00;24;46;15
Speaker 1
So this could look like job shadowing or becoming an intern depend on, you know, if your time allows at a business that's already solving the problem,
00;24;46;15 - 00;24;49;28
Speaker 1
could you go get a part time job doing that right now?
00;24;50;00 - 00;25;14;20
Speaker 1
It could be volunteering someplace. What am I discovering your calling student? I did this to validate one of her ideas, and to my knowledge, I think she's still volunteering at the preschool that matched her values and beliefs, and she's sharing her talents with them. So go volunteer someplace that would align. And again, it doesn't mean you have to do this forever.
00;25;14;26 - 00;25;19;23
Speaker 1
You're just again, validating the ideas. So it's just a way to test it out.
00;25;19;23 - 00;25;22;15
Speaker 1
Now, the best way to do this
00;25;22;15 - 00;25;24;00
Speaker 1
is to go back
00;25;24;00 - 00;25;28;27
Speaker 1
to that one person or people that you thought of
00;25;28;27 - 00;25;37;23
Speaker 1
in test number three to go back a look, test number three, who popped in your head
00;25;37;23 - 00;25;41;17
Speaker 1
when I asked, who do you know that needs to solve this problem?
00;25;41;17 - 00;25;47;08
Speaker 1
Go to them. Ask them if you can just hop on a phone and ask them some questions.
00;25;47;08 - 00;25;58;06
Speaker 1
And I have some questions you could ask them, but the point of it is just have a conversation with some people, find out. Do they really want a solution to this problem?
00;25;58;06 - 00;26;03;15
Speaker 1
And you could ask them questions like simple questions like what are you struggling with right now?
00;26;03;15 - 00;26;07;26
Speaker 1
What do you want? What do you wish you had? What are you looking for?
00;26;07;26 - 00;26;09;09
Speaker 1
How can I help you?
00;26;09;09 - 00;26;18;29
Speaker 1
And then share your idea and ask them, what do you think of this idea? Like, don't make the conversation weird. Don't make it pushy. It's just a conversation.
00;26;18;29 - 00;26;21;16
Speaker 1
You want to get their input on it.
00;26;21;16 - 00;26;28;19
Speaker 1
Now, if at the end of the conversation you feel like you really want to help them with this and you have the the time,
00;26;28;19 - 00;26;31;28
Speaker 1
then volunteer your services to them.
00;26;31;28 - 00;26;44;21
Speaker 1
Now, something small, not huge, nothing big time consuming. But you know, if they're drowning in clutter in their house and overwhelm with it, could you go help them organize one kitchen drawer?
00;26;44;21 - 00;26;46;13
Speaker 1
Maybe if they're stuck
00;26;46;13 - 00;26;48;18
Speaker 1
and they feel like they need to,
00;26;48;18 - 00;26;55;22
Speaker 1
get going on an exercise routine, could you offer to meet them once a week to go for a walk in the park?
00;26;55;24 - 00;26;59;13
Speaker 1
Like, it doesn't have to be a huge commitment right now,
00;26;59;13 - 00;27;01;06
Speaker 1
but it's just you
00;27;01;06 - 00;27;03;01
Speaker 1
offering your services,
00;27;03;01 - 00;27;05;29
Speaker 1
being in that place of serving others.
00;27;05;29 - 00;27;10;09
Speaker 1
But at the same time, you get to test out your idea.
00;27;10;09 - 00;27;20;04
Speaker 1
And the most important thing here is monitoring your energy. You might recall we did that earlier in the skills and we monitored our energy.
00;27;20;04 - 00;27;22;18
Speaker 1
What skills do we have that give us energy?
00;27;22;18 - 00;27;32;03
Speaker 1
It's the same idea here. Make sure that if you do this idea, this purpose driven problem, are you actually going to enjoy it?
00;27;32;03 - 00;27;36;06
Speaker 1
Let's say that you do want to help people organize their their homes,
00;27;36;06 - 00;27;45;12
Speaker 1
and you set up a time to go help your your friend. You know, you had a great conversation with her and she's like, oh my gosh, yes, I need this.
00;27;45;12 - 00;27;58;26
Speaker 1
You're not going to help her do her whole house. She's going to pay you later for that right now. You said, you know what, let me come over and we'll just organize your spice cabinet or we'll organize, you know, one drawer or your pantry.
00;27;58;26 - 00;27;59;15
Speaker 1
And
00;27;59;15 - 00;28;07;24
Speaker 1
what's most important for you is to notice how you feel the day you're going over to do it.
00;28;07;27 - 00;28;16;06
Speaker 1
Are you super excited to go do this? Are you having fun doing the work and how do you feel after?
00;28;16;06 - 00;28;21;27
Speaker 1
Do you have in your head like, oh my gosh, that was so much fun. I would love to do this again.
00;28;21;27 - 00;28;24;10
Speaker 1
That's what you're looking for.
00;28;24;10 - 00;28;28;28
Speaker 1
That's you're calling my friend when you have that experience.
00;28;28;28 - 00;28;31;18
Speaker 1
So go test it out.
00;28;31;19 - 00;28;42;04
Speaker 1
Go try it. Just go have fun with it again. Don't make it weird. Don't make it that you need something you don't. You're just testing the waters.
00;28;42;04 - 00;28;54;15
Speaker 1
But the important thing here is that you get these ideas out of your head and get into action. So you can really see, is this something I could see myself doing for the next ten, 20, 30 years?
00;28;54;15 - 00;29;10;21
Speaker 1
Okay, so we covered a lot today in this waypoint, and I hope that it's really helping you see how to just validate the ideas that are swirling around your head to see, is it a good one? Is it something that you really should pursue?
00;29;10;21 - 00;29;16;17
Speaker 1
And just a reminder, let's go back through what your self work is for today.
00;29;16;19 - 00;29;19;18
Speaker 1
So for this waypoint, waypoint number six
00;29;19;18 - 00;29;35;19
Speaker 1
take number one. First thing you want to do. This is your self work. Now is take the ideas again. You came up with a waypoint number five. That's last week's episode. And run them through the four test to validate the concept. Validate your purpose driven problem.
00;29;35;19 - 00;29;39;25
Speaker 1
Now for some of you, you may need to go back to waypoint number five
00;29;39;25 - 00;29;42;08
Speaker 1
and re listen to that one before you do this.
00;29;42;08 - 00;29;48;16
Speaker 1
But again no judgment. You know, do what you got to do okay. But once you have your ideas
00;29;48;16 - 00;29;50;03
Speaker 1
take 1 or 2 ideas.
00;29;50;03 - 00;29;50;26
Speaker 1
Then
00;29;50;26 - 00;29;52;16
Speaker 1
run them through the four tests.
00;29;52;16 - 00;29;58;09
Speaker 1
Then get out and test the idea by serving others. That's the most important thing here.
00;29;58;09 - 00;30;04;18
Speaker 1
Monitor your in energy. So number three is just monitor your energy. Just like I just shared,
00;30;04;18 - 00;30;07;14
Speaker 1
you know, are you excited to go do this thing.
00;30;07;14 - 00;30;10;21
Speaker 1
How does it feel when you're doing it and how do you feel afterwards?
00;30;10;21 - 00;30;27;22
Speaker 1
Number four share your idea over in the Discovering Your Calling challenge this book community. You never know who might know someone who needs what you're offering. This is the opportunity to do a little networking in there, in a safe community.
00;30;27;22 - 00;30;32;09
Speaker 1
The other thing is it's just going to inspire others to think of their idea.
00;30;32;11 - 00;30;36;07
Speaker 1
So share over there to inspire and maybe do a little networking.
00;30;36;07 - 00;30;46;07
Speaker 1
And number five, break through any mindset roadblocks by sharing them in the group as well. I'll do a little coaching for you over there
00;30;46;07 - 00;30;51;17
Speaker 1
to help you break through, because we don't want you to get stuck on this waypoint. You're so close to the end.
00;30;51;17 - 00;31;07;00
Speaker 1
And then next week, I'll see you back here next Tuesday when a new episode downloads, and we're going to move on to waypoint number seven, where we will set some strengths based goals for your career and life.
00;31;07;00 - 00;31;30;17
Speaker 1
And yes, heavy on the strengths over the next few sessions. So one last reminder maybe it's not the last, but another reminder that if you haven't done it yet and you've been thinking about it, now's the time to do the VIP upgrade where you will get a free Cliftonstrengths assessment. It's a $59.99 value.
00;31;30;17 - 00;31;36;16
Speaker 1
You'll get a 90 minute strengths coaching session with me, one on one with me.
00;31;36;18 - 00;31;55;20
Speaker 1
In that and you get another 60 minute coaching session to cover any of the weight points, any of the mindset issues, any of those things that are going to help move you closer to your calling. All for less than $400. It is an unbelievably great price and great offer,
00;31;55;20 - 00;32;02;20
Speaker 1
but time's running out. This offer goes away very soon, very soon.
00;32;02;23 - 00;32;23;06
Speaker 1
So take advantage of it now while we're on waypoint number six is. Once we hit waypoint number eight, the offer goes away. So if you've been thinking about it, now's the time to grab it. The link is in the show notes. All right my friends. Thanks as always for being here. I hope this episode has been helpful. Love to hear from you.
00;32;23;08 - 00;32;26;29
Speaker 1
Let me know what you enjoyed most in this waypoint.
