But before we do that, I want you to know four essential truths about when it comes to mindset. So four essential truths to remember when it comes to mindset. One, these mindset issues are normal. It's natural to have doubts to expect them. But just don't let them take the wheel or stop you.

Number two, they're just stories. These are these narratives keep us stuck, but they aren't grounded in truth.

So the first one is the Danger Boys.

And the danger Boys represent the hidden hazards that are ahead.

And here's the thing. Danger boys are there to keep you from going into, danger areas.

Like when you're when we're navigating our boat. When we see danger boys, we know that's an area we don't want to go into.

But here's the thing with danger, boys. Some people can get so hung up on like, oh my gosh, there's danger out there. I can't even leave the dock.

And they keep us from even stepping out into our future.

And these danger boys represent the doubts, the fears and the stories we tell ourselves. It's that inner voice that whispers, well, I really even do this. Am I too old to start a new chapter? Or maybe you're you're danger boy. Thoughts are. I'm not equipped to create my own business.

And these thoughts, again, are just things that we tell ourselves.

It's kind of like when a fearful friend shows up. Do you remember fearful Fred? We talked about him in the beginning of the eight week challenge,

and it's these thoughts that we just have about ourselves. They're eternal. The internal obstacle rules that creep in and threaten to sabotage our journey.

For example, sometimes I feel like I'm just way too lazy to do anything new in my life, or I'm way too lazy to build a successful business.

I mean, I love to have a good time. I love to have fun.

I also get tired easily these days and love to take my afternoon naps. And sometimes my danger. Boys thoughts are,

do I really want to work that hard anymore to build another business?

Do I have the energy to do that?

And I can get my son myself into this downward spiral, believing that I don't have the energy or the wherewithal or the ambition to build anything new again.

But I know deep in my heart

that I wouldn't be happy if I weren't using all my God given gifts to make a difference or working towards something meaningful. And I've experienced that firsthand. When we were on our boat for seven months, I didn't work. And you know what the first thought I had when we decided that we were done living on a sailboat and we were going to sell it, the first thought I had was like, yay!

I can get back to working. So I know truthfully that I love to work, and I know I can build something successful because I've done it before. In the past, a couple of different times I built successful businesses,

genuinely want to run a successful business

and that that danger, but we thought is just a fear keeping me in my comfort zone.

If you follow me on Facebook, you might have seen me post our decision to move back to New York. And if you've ever moved before, you know how stressful that can be. The last few weeks have totally got me off of my schedule. Like way off. But luckily, one healthy habit I have been able to stick to is my magic mind.

here's three things you can do to start taking your life over again and not get stuck in fear of these danger boys.

Number one, remind yourself of your past successes.

Number two, look for evidence to prove that your thoughts are fake news. They're just fake news. They're not real.

And number three, look to your natural talents and strengths. Which natural talents and strengths do you have that can overcome these negative thoughts?

The second saboteur.

and write them down, because as soon as we can identify them, we can break through them.

All right. So Dane or the next avatar is the sharks. We say, watch out for the sharks in the water,

because in your journey toward achieving your dreams,

you will encounter sharks. And sharks are those naysayers, those doubters, those negative nellies who lurk nearby, ready to sabotage your aspirations if you let them.

And these sharks might swim around you saying things like, you don't have time for this right now,

why on earth would you walk away from a successful career to start something new?

And the challenges

Speaker 1
that sometimes those sharks are people you live with

or people you love dearly, dearly?

They could be your spouse, a parent, a boss, coworkers, perhaps one of your best friends.
00;15;27;03 - 00;15;32;17

And while they genuinely care for you, they might not understand your dream.

And here's the thing a lot of people they love you so much, they want to protect you. And if they don't understand why you're doing this new thing, they're going to tell you all the reasons why

you shouldn't be doing it as a protection.

But in reality, these sharks can take a bite out of your dream.

So we don't want to let them do that.

The other reason that sometimes sharks show up when we're trying to do something new

and they don't support our dreams, is because when you're taking bold steps out of your comfort zone, it shines a light on their own dissatisfaction.

You know, as the saying goes, you know, misery loves company.

And when somebody in our group is stepping out of that place of misery and discomfort,

the rest of us get kind of antsy. We're like, oh, wait, what is she doing? Wait a minute, wait a minute. Maybe she's right. Maybe this is a bad place to be.

And it just sends us into this weird place. So sometimes the sharks are just in this weird place because you're doing something great and they're not.

So, my friend. Think about it. Who are those sharks in your life?

Who are those? Those people that

you had hoped they would encourage you? You had hope that they would support this dream. And they're not. They're just not.

We can't change their attitude. But what we can do is change how we approach the sharks, and so that they don't steal our dreams away and they don't take that bite out of our dreams.

So here are three steps you can take. Once you identify who the sharks are, take these three steps so that they don't stop you. Number one, just avoid discussing your dreams with the sharks. They're never going to get it. You can't convince them of it. Now you can show them. So stop talking about it and just go quietly around about your business, doing the work you need to do to get to your dream, career and life.

hang out with if you want to? If you want to be an entrepreneur in the future, go find communities where there's entrepreneurs and small business owners.

If you want to switch careers, go find people who are doing the career you want to go to

or surround yourself with people who are already living your dream, or

read the books about it, or listen to the podcast. Fill your mind with things that aren't shark related.

Number three, the third step you can do to get away from the sharks

Remind yourself daily who will benefit from you achieving this new vision for your life.

Sometimes it's the sharks that'll benefit, which is kind of ironic, but just keep that vision in your mind clear that who will benefit when you achieve this goal so that you can keep moving forward?

Okay, the last saboteur that we need to look out for are the anchors, and the anchors are meant to just hold you back.

They just keep you in one place. That's what an anchor is designed to do.

And sometimes anchors are really good and valuable, but other times they're keeping you stuck. They're keeping you from going where you want to go.

And anchors are similar to danger buoys. However,

while danger buoys represent what you are saying about yourself or the beliefs you have about yourself, that may not be true.

Anchors are the common misconceptions about life that can keep you stuck.

These are the beliefs that may have been true at one point in your life, but they're no longer. They no longer serve you today.

And some of these anchors have never been true. Yet you've heard them so often that you accept them as fact.

And many of these anchors have been passed down through generations. They've been ingrained in our work environments, and they've been echoed through society.

Anchors can be thoughts like, you need to stay at a job for the health, health insurance and the benefits plan,

or take the job that offers a great paycheck and a 401 K over the one that fuels your passion.

Or

teachers out there may have heard this one. You can't leave your job because you have tenure.

Or my least favorite anchor,

which I talk in depth about in the Discovered Your Calling book, is you need to go to college, get your degree, find a well-paying, secure job that pays the bills, work there for 20 to 30 years, and then at age 65, you can start enjoying your life.

And that, my friends, is my least favorite anchor.

And that's the anchor that keeps so many people stuck in a career that they don't enjoy, and they're not called to do

And this one's kind of hard to really see because sometimes, again, we've heard them so often that they're really hard to recognize that like, oh my gosh, I have been believing that.

And is that really even true?

And that's exactly what we have to start thinking. If we want to pull up the anchors and move towards our dream career and life.

I take students through, this process called changing the crease in the paper. It was something I learned way back in the early days of my direct sales.

And I'll never forget learning this. It was from a, top leader. Her name was Rena Tarbert, and she taught us that, you know, she took a sheet of paper and just folded in half and really made the crease defined. And she talked about how, you know, in the course of our life, we keep hearing these things over and over and over again.

It becomes that crease in the paper that it's so ingrained in us, it's hard not to believe anymore. But she taught us, and I want to teach this to you right now. You can just flip the paper around just turn it a quarter of a turn and create a brand new crease.

So what are those thoughts that you need to just flip that paper a little bit, stop believing them and start creating your own new crease.

The second thing you can do to break, to pull up the anchor is kind of like we did for the Danger Boys

The third thing you can do is learn what I call the art of possibility thinking.

And so instead of believing that, oh wow, I can't do this, start asking yourself, how can I do this?

So instead of believing I can't do x, y, and z because of something, just start asking the question how can I do this?

So my friend, those are a brief overview of the three basic saboteurs that can keep you stuck. Danger. Buoys. Sharks. Anchors,

and the whole point I want you to know is just be prepared for them. We can't

go through life without having them show up.

and they might try to hinder your journey. But if you know that they're there, you're prepared for it.
